iOS Devices to Get Flash Player, Really

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 01:44 PM PDT

The frustration for iOS device users not being able to display any Flash video's on their devices, could soon be a thing of the past…

Ever since the first Apple iPhone shipped 4 years ago until now, Apple devices have not been able to get Flash Player and whilst, the iOS device users have got use to being unable to display Flash content, it is a shame that before now Adobe and Apple were not able to reach a compromise.

However, a solution to the Flash dilemma may have finally come via Adobe with their latest version of Flash. In Las Vegas, at the National Association of Broadcasters trade show, Adobe previewed their latest version of Flash, which incorporates HTTP live streaming. Therefore, without the need to install any additional software on their devices, iOS users will eventually be able display Flash video with this new version of Flash.

Apple has been steadfast over the years, in their refusal to approve Flash for the iOS and in an article by SpiritJB, they say that Apple continually sighted their concerns over the overall poor performance of Flash and the detrimental effect to battery life. Apple's CEO Steve Jobs at one point even went so far as to post an open letter entitled, 'Thoughts on Flash' on the company's website to defend their position in regards to Flash on iOS.

The SpiritJB article goes on to say that for the average user, the details of this plan to get Flash video to more devices is a bit technical, however, in near future, the Flash required warnings that iOS device user have become accustomed too will be a thing of the past. If you do not have Flash installed on your device, no problem as the server will send the video to you in a format that is compatible with the device. To see the full article by SpiritJB, click link to visit their site.

However, it is still unclear just when Adobe will implement their latest version of Flash across the board, but good news to the iOS users is that a solution to the Flash problem could finally be on its way. See video below of Apple iPad 2 streaming with Adobe Flash Media Server. So what are your thoughts, do you think the Flash problem on iOS devices has taken too long to resolve? What do you think of this latest news? Please let us know… below.

iPad 2 Greenpois0n Jailbreak Coming Soon after Untether

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 11:42 AM PDT

We have some good news for owners of the Apple iPad 2 who wish to jailbreak their device, there is an untethered jailbreak coming soon.

Information coming to us via TechNewsPerk, is that Chronic Dev Team are expected to release the jailbreak for iPad 2, sometime soon and are believed to be working on it after the release of the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1.

The jailbreak is expected to be made available in an update for GreenPois0n and is confirmed in a twitter by the Chronic Dev Team's Joshua Hill, which said…"since 4.3.1 is already exploited by the legendary @ionic, we're working on finishing iPad2 jailbreak now."

We previously advised on the iPad 2 getting jailbroken by Comex in an article dated March 14, 2011. As Apple has patched the exploit in iOS 4.3.1 found by Comex, the Chronic Dev Team have decided that it might be better to stay with iOS 4.3.

Dual-SIM Technology for iPhone with 2Phone Case

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 08:53 AM PDT

Imagine having just one phone that operates with two different network operators… at the same time. Well imagine no more.

For a while dual-SIM adapters have been available for the iPhone and it is even speculated that the iPhone 5 could release with dual-SIM technology, see our article dated March 15, 2011. However, Rebel Simcard has come up with a new concept.

The Rebel 2Phone case for the Apple iPhone 4 gives your device the ability use 2 different lines or 2 different carriers to make and receive phone calls. However, the amazing thing about this case is that both SIMs are active together, meaning you can make your calls on both lines at the same time.

What sets Rebel 2Phone case apart from previous dual-SIM designs (which commonly had the second SIM card dangling alongside of the device) is that this case is actually an all-in-one accessory that has multiple purposes. It has a SIM card slot actually built into the inside of its back cover, which connects to your iPhone via the charging port.

However, there is more, the 2Phone case also comes with a rechargeable battery to power the dual SIM operation and therefore, not only does it not drain your iPhone battery when making calls when using the dual SIM operation, but also it will actually recharge the iPhone's battery when it gets low. See video below.

The whole dual SIM invention is contained within an attractive case that appears to be easy enough to get off and on and is currently available to purchase for approximately $250 via Rebel Simcard. Information on the Rebel 2Phone case comes to us by way of iDB. However, before you rush off to get your case there is one very important bit of information to note, this case will only work with jailbroken devices.

So what do you think about the possibility of dual SIM technology on your handset, good or bad?

White iPhone or iPhone 5: Your Choice

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 07:53 AM PDT

Just something quick to get to know our readers a little, in one corner you have the white iPhone 4 and in the other you have the Apple iPhone 5.

We reported a little earlier today that the white iPhone 4 will release April 26, which ends the 10 month plus delay but then many Apple lovers would like to see the release of the iPhone 5 and that is looking more at a September release and not a normal June / July one.

Has the wait for the white version of the iPhone 4 been too long in the tooth to even worry about buying one now, or do you still want one as much as you did when your first heard about a white iPhone 4?

Moving onto the iPhone 5 as said above it is looking like it will release sometime around September or October according to analyst, Apple has not even mentioned anything about launch or release dates so we have to consider this as speculation. Other rumours suggest that the iPhone 5 could have a 12.6 megapixel camera.

Now let's get down to the important question, we have started a poll below this article to ask you the reader if you would prefer the white iPhone 4 or the iPhone 5, or maybe forget about the iPhone 4 in white and wait for a new white iPhone 5.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Android Froyo Kyocera Echo Video Review

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 06:38 AM PDT

For those of you that are contemplating grabbing some dual screen Android smartphone goodness fron Sprint we have a two-part video review of the dual screen toting Kyocera Echo for your consideration below, but is it the smartphone for you?

The two-part video review of the Kyocera Echo comes our way courtesy of Aaron Baker over at Phone Dog who gets up close and personal with the Android device available from Sprint as of right now for $199.99.

The big thing with the Kyocera Echo is of course that dual screen functionality that has been optimised to run Android 2.2 Froyo on both displays along with a 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

The only problem with the Kyocera Echo is of course it doesn’t play nice on Sprint’s 4G network, so could that fact be the deal breaker with the device? To find out all about the Kyocera Echo head on down and mash those play buttons…enjoy.

By the way, anyone out there looking to purchase the Kyocera Echo, or have you already done so?

HTC Sensation Convex Screen Hands-On Photos

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 06:29 AM PDT

HTC's newest smartphone, the 'Sensation' is definitely starting life in the fast lane and will have some of its competitors looking over their shoulder. The HTC Sensation is not much different in looks to some of HTC’s other models, such as the HTC Desire S, but when it comes to features, the others don't compare.

With features like a dual-core, 1.2GHz processor (under its cover), the new HTC Sense 3.0 software and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. In addition, with more features than HTC's standard Android devices, including a lock screen you can customise with previews and shortcuts the Sensation sets itself apart from the others.

The HTC Sensation also sports a huge (slightly convex) LCD 4.3-inch screen that has a 16:9 aspect ratio, which means that like a wide-screen telly, you do not get the black bars above and below. However, there is more, as HTC’s new Watch film store makes its first appearance on the Sensation. Watch will enable you to rent or buy films, which can only be watched on HTC devices; this is great news for all those film buffs out their thinking of getting their hands on this smartphone.

Also, with other features including an 8-megapixel camera, so you can shoot your own 1080p video and a 0.3-megapixel camera on the front of the phone that is ideal for video calling and self-portraits (for the vain few out there). HTC have also said they have tried to speed up the camera, so the shot capture is faster.

If you are interested in the HTC Sensation, which is expected to release May/June (depending on which network you want), why not check out our articles featuring the promo video of the device and walkthrough-videos or the hands-on gallery photos provided by Flora Graham of CNet.

Why not let us know your views on the HTC Sensation, whether good or bad in the comments box below.

iPhone 5: 12.6 Megapixel Camera Possibility

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 06:13 AM PDT

The rumours and speculation concerning the next generation iPhone to come out of the Apple camp still continue with the latest speculation being touted that the iPhone 5 could possibly come out to play with the iOS masses sporting a better camera than the Sony 8 megapixel one previously rumoured.

According to an article over on Pocket Now and by way of Redmond Pie, and by way of iSpazio, OmniVision supplied Apple with the camera sensor for the iPhone 4, and now OmniVision is producing a 12.6 megapixel sensor capable of 1080p that should be available around June.

Of course the first thought that springs to mind is Apple could be contemplating using that OmniVision 12.6 megapixel camera sensor for the iPhone 5, although apparently no one has placed any orders for the sensor as yet.

However as Apple has previously used OmniVision camera sensors the argument is there’s no reason why Apple shouldn't continue doing so and thus the rumour begins that the iPhone 5 could come out to play with a 12.6 megapixel camera and 1080p in tow. But word has been doing the rounds that Apple may ditch OmniVision in favour of that Sony 8 megapixel camera.

Would you like the next iOS smartphone to sport a 12.6 MP shooter with 1080p video? Perhaps that’s why Apple is delaying the release of the iPhone 5, waiting for that 12.6 megapixel sensor to be ready.

HTC Droid Incredible 2 Pops Up on Big Red Website

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 05:46 AM PDT

As most are probably aware the HTC Droid Incredible 2 is expected to become available as of the 28th of this month, which is still ten long days away along with the Droid Charge also becoming available on the same date.

However according to an article over on Droid-life, Verizon has already placed the HTC Droid Incredible 2 on its website and they suggest that it is possible that one or the other could well see release early next week, albeit unlikely.

However if you are expecting to see anything new on the HTC Droid Incredible 2 on the web page then you are right out of luck as it doesn't offer any other insight to what is known already, and that’s probably due to the Droid Incredible 2 specs and user guide already being outed.

So the big question is who is waiting for the HTC Droid Incredible 2 to become available so they can purchase the Android 2.2 Froyo, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8 megapixel camera toting 4-inch capacitive touch screen Droid Incredible 2?

Angry Birds Seasons Easter Previewed on Video

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 05:24 AM PDT

As most Angry Birds fans will know, Rovio is gearing up to release an update to Angry Birds Season for Easter, which should hit app stores before Easter gets here, and is the Angry Birds Seasons Easter edition, so how about checking out the game before getting it?

What we have for your consideration below is an Angry Birds Seasons Easter Edition preview video, which comes our way courtesy of the guys over at Droid-life and by way of the Rovio Mobile YouTube page.

The Angry Birds Seasons-Easter Eggs gameplay trailer lasts a tad over a minute and shows us what the updated edition will play like; basically the same gameplay as every other Angry Birds game but with an Easter slant such as Easter eggs and green pigs wearing bunny ears, and will no doubt come to iOS, Android and other platforms.

The object of the new Angry Birds Season update is exactly the same as before whereby you have to sling those Angry Birds at the thieving green pigs, destroying their crazy constructions and will no doubt bring hours of pig bashing fun to the masses this Easter…enjoy.

Apple iPad 2 Toys R Us & Best Buy Stock Issues

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 04:51 AM PDT

I remember not so long-a-go going to Toys R Us to get the latest board game or game for a games console, but how times have changed, as they are now selling Apple's iPad 2.

Reports are coming in that the Toys R Us store began selling the iPad 2 yesterday Sunday, April 17, but only select stores have the device. Toys R Us was already sells lots of the iPad accessories. However, before you rush out to your local store, the availability of the tablet PC is very limited. Reports are coming in that stores are running out of stock very fast.

In an article by CNet it is reported that a store in Tustin, California opened its doors at 9am and by 10am had already sold out of the iPad 2. In a story by 9to5mac it is reported that in Toys R Us the 16 GB iPad 2 is retailing for $4.99 and the 32 GB WiFi-only iPad 2 is $599. However, at least Toys R Us has the stock to sell (albeit, for only a short while), as the CNet story goes on to report, despite aggressive promotions by Best Buy they do not appear to have any stock in their stores.

At the Best Buy stores in Chicago downtown and Thousand Oaks, California stores the staff said they are only taking orders and have none of the devices in stock. However, a representative at the Thousand Oaks store did apologize for their Sunday flier featuring the iPad 2 as being in stock and therefore, giving the wrong impression. But I am wondering if Best Buy do have the stock, but just want to use bully boy tactics to sell the devices with their protection plan – see our article here.

So what do you think about the iPad 2 being sold in Toys R Us stores? Do you think it's right?

Oliver Sweeney Shoe App for Apple iPad: Design Italian Footwear

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 04:23 AM PDT

So you enjoy going shoe shopping, but wouldn't it be of great help if you could design the ideal pair of shoes right there in the store? Well there’s an iOS app that has taken 3 months to produce that may become the next big thing for retailers to better engage their customers.

The app has been designed by Mobikats along with Oliver Sweeney’s fashion photographer and is call the Oliver Sweeney Shoe app for the Apple iPad. The app allows the user to design custom Italian shoes at the point of sale for the first time.

The Oliver Sweeney Shoe app for the Apple iPad allows users to select shoe design, colour of shoe skin for each panel, type of luxury skin, and the delivers the ability to see just what that shoe looks like, and thus improving on the shopping experience.

Mobikats director, Phil Hunt says, "The challenge for Mobikats with this particular iPad app was to make sure that Oliver Sweeney staff and customers had fun and were helped every step of the process by the app."

The Oliver Sweeney Shoe iOS app key features are 6 different shoe designs, 5 different luxury skins from stingray to leather in varying colours, simple touch interface, different views of the finished design, the ability to email the designed shoe to others.

The Oliver Sweeney Shoe app isn't yet available on iTunes so I have no idea how much it will cost or when it will become available, but the developer’s objective is to take the iPad app to the App Store for general release at some point.
