Nook Color gets updated to version 1.2.0 Posted: 25 Apr 2011 02:01 PM PDT Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color was the first Android eReader, and among the first Android tablets released. Though the device was not meant to be used as a fully functional tablet, it gained much usability after developers started messing with the insides of this device (which actually has a lot of potential for a $250 gadget). The tablet has even had some Honeycomb action already, which is impressive. To take a look at everything you can do to a Nook Color, head over to NookDevs and check out its true potential. Aside from devs playing around with the Nook, this tablet has not received much support, with only one update in the past, version 1.1.0 (with bug fixes and performance improvements). For those that have been waiting for some love straight from Barnes & Nobles, today is your lucky day. The Nook Color has been officially announced to receive an upgrade to version 1.2.0, which actually adds some more tablet-like features, as well as some other Nook additions.
The update will start rolling out today, and according to Barnes & Nobles, it should arrive your device sometime this week. For those that are not very patient, there is actually a way to manually update the device, and Barnes and Nobles has given us some instructions to perform the manual update.
Though the Nook is still officially not a full-featured tablet, it is nice to see some improvements and additions that make it closer to what a tablet should be. With all the hackery that the Nook Color has received, people may not even be that excited about this update, though. What do you guys think? Do we even care for this update? Are we already comfortable with the work that our friends (developers) have done? |
South Park’s season premiere aimed directly at Apple, will Android make a cameo? Posted: 25 Apr 2011 09:55 AM PDT South Park’s season premiere will air this Wednesday, and the episode seems to be mainly devoted at making fun of Apple and its fans . I have a feeling not many Apple fans will appreciate that. On the other hand, I bet many Android fans will enjoy the episode immensely and probably watch it a couple of hundred times afterwards. According to the South Park website, the episode — named “HUMANCENTiPAD” — will revolve around:
Making fun of Apple is starting to become rather common practice among comedians these days, and we can’t say we’re sad about it. However, while making fun of Apple is all fun and giggles, we’d really love to see Android make a debut in the South Park episode. I know a couple of Android fans who will have a heart attack if Android saves the day at the end of the episode. Anyhow, it’s always nice to see our lovely, cuddly, favorite green robot gaining popularity among mainstream consumers. How many of you will be watching this episode? If you are, keep an eye out for Andy. |
Acer Iconia Tab A500 is now available at Best Buy Posted: 25 Apr 2011 09:55 AM PDT Options have been limited for months now, and it is definitely exciting to see that the tablet competition is actually beginning, with more devices being released. One of the main Honeycomb competitors is the Acer Iconia Tab A500, which was given an official price and release date earlier this month, and as expected, it is now available for purchase exclusively through Best Buy. Acer Iconia Tab A500 Specification: For $449.99, these specs are not disappointing at all. The Eee Pad Transformer is also releasing tomorrow (April 26), starting at a price of $400, so options for the budget conscious are now looking great! Either way, we thought it would be a good idea to remind you that this tablet is now available. It has been more than 2 weeks since we talked about this, and a lot happens in two weeks of Android news. What do you guys think? Are you purchasing Acer’s bad boy? Do you prefer this or the Transformer? Are you waiting for another manufacturer? Don’t forget to check out the video that Acer has put together for us, which is posted below, along with some pictures of the device. |
