Verizon Wireless issues “oopsie” postcard to former customers

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 03:39 PM PDT

So you’re sitting there watching TV, and a commercial comes blasting through about some really neat thing you can do by texting “pants” to 12345. Blinded by the possibilities, you slap that unlock screen and hurry to the messaging app. Now, weeks later, the excitement of that night has passed, and you find yourself in front of a bill that has a few extra charges on it, since those pants jokes were apparently not free. Some may have paid that bill without even noticing. Others, begrudgingly typed in that credit card number, and a few probably even called in to give that cell phone man a good stern talkin’ to. No matter who you are, if you’re a Verizon customer, you might be owed some of that money back.

Now the information here might be different for those who are still Verizon customers, but either way Big Red has stepped up and taken charge of the situation by offering credit to anybody who fell victim to services where it was not spelled out clearly that this was not a normal text message. Be sure to head to www.premiumsmsrefunds.com and see if you’ve got some money headed your way!

Droid Charge briefly seen on video

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 01:24 PM PDT

Verizon’s new addition to the "Droid" family, the Samsung Droid Charge, has been peeking its head at us since CES 2011. It is always nice to see our upcoming devices show up in leaked videos and images, and if you are waiting for Verizon’s second 4G LTE phone, today is a good day for you. Our friends over at TechnoBuffalo posted a video that came from one of those ninja tipsters we love so much, and it must be said that the video does not seem as thrilling as one would imagine.

The video only lasts about half of a minute, so it is not as detailed as we would have liked it to be, but at least we are getting something. Our friend Nick had a hands-on on this device, and two videos are uploaded in his article, if you would like a better view of what the device is capable of. Also, Russell had a more detailed hands-on with the Samsung Droid Charge, and it definitely seems like it is going to be a great competitor to the HTC Thunderbolt, but is it part of the "next generation" of Android smartphones? One of the main complaints about the device is that it does not have a dual-core processor – instead it will be sporting a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, which is good, but honestly, it is nothing special anymore (as you can see by the quadrant test).

Samsung Droid Charge specifications (According to a leaked document):

  • 4G LTE capable
  • Android 2.2 Froyo
  • 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen (800×480)
  • 1 GHz Hummingbird Processor
  • 512 of RAM
  • 2 GB of internal Storage / microSD slot (expandable up to 32 GB)
  • 8 MP rear-facing camera / 1.3 MP front-facing camera

This device has been in the headlines of Android websites for some time now, which can only mean that it is close to its release. Droid Life actually got a hold of a document that mentions April 28 as the release date, and the rumored price is about $300 (which is indeed pricey), but as always, lets not hold our breath. For now, check out the video and let us know if you are planning on getting this 4G device (its data speeds are actually very impressive).
