A wild white iPhone appears! (In Verizon inventory)

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 06:50 PM PDT

Hot on the heels of yet another supposed confirmation of white iPhone availability, an honest-to-god inventory listing of a new iPhone SKU has been spotted at Verizon, and although there’s no more information than that such a device truly exists, it suggests that the rumors calling for release in the next few weeks might be true.

Motorola Droid X2 Demoed On Video, Still Looks Exactly Like The Droid X

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 02:06 PM PDT

Outside of the surprising removal of the camera button and an oh-so-subtle color tweak, the original Droid X and the thus-far unannounced Droid X2 are pretty much the exact same phone… on the outside.

On the inside, however, it’s a whole different beast. The processor has been bumped from a single-core 1Ghz CPU to a 1.2 Ghz dual-core, RAM has jumped from 512 MB to 768 MB, and the screen resolution has climbed from 854×480 to 960×540. Alas, though it’s clearly a Verizon phone, there’s no mention of LTE/4G support.

Care to see just what those specs can do? Check out the video after the jump.

An anonymous tipster sent a video of the Droid X2 in action over to our buddies at TechnoBuffalo. While the glance at the hardware itself isn’t too exciting (again, it’s almost indistinguishable from the Droid X), man oh man do things seem to be running smooth. The tipster sneaks in a quadrant benchmark test there at the end, where the handset scores a rather impressive 2453 (whereas the original Droid X scores somewhere around 1442).

Virgin Mobile Picks Up The Samsung Restore

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 01:34 PM PDT

Now that Sprint is getting an eco-friendly Android smartphone, they don’t have much of a need for an eco-friendly feature phone like the Samsung Restore.

Like an older brother passin’ down his old toys to a younger sibling, it looks like Sprint will be passin’ down the duties of carrying the Samsung Restore to their pre-paid brand, Virgin Mobile. Outside of the branding tweak, the Restore is pretty much unchanged.

The Restore should hit the shelves on Virgin Mobile for $79.99 (without contract) come April 18th.

Sprint’s First Eco-Friendly Android Phone, the Samsung Replenish, Coming May 8th

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 12:16 PM PDT

When Sprint launched their first “green” handset back in 2009, we assumed it was little more than a passing gesture. In 2010, they surprised us with a second installment in their green line. And this year? Sure enough, they’re back with another one — and this time, it’s an Android-powered smartphone.

Now, the Samsung Replenish is no spec’d-out monsterphone, but it is made of 82% recyclable materials with an outer casing built of 34% post-consumer recycled plastic. Under all those recycled bits its got a 2.8″ QVGA display, a QWERTY keyboard, 2MP camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and microSD support (up to 32GB). Oh, and perhaps the coolest bit of all: Sprint will waive the mandatory $10 smartphone data add-on for anyone carrying the Replenish. Given that that works out to $120 per year, that’s no chump change.

Expect the Replenish to launch on May 8th for $49.99 on a two-year contract.

Text While Driving In Connecticut, Lose Your License For A Day

Posted: 15 Apr 2011 11:25 AM PDT

I’m a pretty chill driver — there’s really not much that can set me off. Don’t use your turning signal? Meh. Driving slow in the passing lane? Eh, whatever. Text while driving, though.. do that, and you’re pretty much my least favorite person. You’re putting others lives at risk by driving a 3,000 pound missile blind, all so you can have conversations that are almost always forgettable and nigh meaningless. Stupid.

Most states have already banned texting while driving, with varied results. Some studies are showing that texting-related crash rates aren’t going down, as people are still doing it on the sly. The next step? Increase the punishment. Today, the state of Connecticut’s Judiciary Committee has voted to increase the repeat offender rate from $150 to $500. Plus, they threw in a special twist: if the cop is feeling particularly angry, they can take your license for a day. You wouldn’t even be allowed to drive home after getting the ticket.

What do you think? Will it work? Weigh in down in the comments.
