Google Acquires Pushlife, Could Bring iTunes-Like Media Management to Android [Video]

Google’s opening their checkbooks again and have gone ahead and acquired yet another software firm. This time, the folks at Pushlife are being added to their growing pool of talent. They couldn’t comment on what they’d be doing with Google, of course, but we’d bet all our marbles on them continuing the project they were already working on, except with some Android-exclusive love.

They developed an iTunes-style media management system that allowed you to sync your music back and forth between iTunes and Windows Mobile just as easily as iPod, iPad, and iPhone owners can. They had versions for Android and Blackberry available, but I assume Blackberry support will be dropped in light of the acquisition.

Google’s long been rumored to be launching their own music service – a formal announcement of which we expect to be made at Google IO in May – and this acquisition lends further credibility to all of the murmurs we’ve heard over the past year. (This stuff has been going on since last year’s Google IO, you know.) Check out the video above to get a taste of what could be coming to Android. [via TechCrunch]

Although Best Buy got everyone’s hopes up for a Nexus S 4G launch last week, it appears we’re as close to its launch as we’re going to be. The device has just hit the FCC which gives Samsung, Google, Best Buy, and whoever else is involved the go-ahead to sell this thing to consumers. As for the phone itself, you already know its deal – it’s landing on Sprint and will be compatible with their 4G network. Is that worth the price of admission for some of you? Amazon’s keeping things rolling with free paid apps and today’s feature is a puzzle game that tests your engineering expertise. X Construction has you building bridges fit for trains. You simply build a structure solid enough to hold a train of 2-3 cars. If your structure is weak you could be sending hundreds of innocent patrons to their free-falling deaths. Scary stuff, right? So get out there and build those bridges for free in the Amazon app store. (Usually $1.44 in the Android market.)

Fear Not, T-Mobile G2 Users: Gingerbread’s A-Comin’ This Quarter

The T-Mobile G2 has been out for quite some time. Given the nature of the software T-Mobile decided to put on it – stock Android 2.2 – we figured it’d be one of the first devices after the Nexus line to get Android 2.3. Time came and went without an update nor a peep about its status, unfortunately, but it seems G2 owners will be experiencing a case of “good things come to those who wait”.

ComputerWorld has confirmed via an HTC rep that the phone will indeed be getting Android 2.3. It’s said that it’ll be out by the beginning of summer, so you can expect it to land this quarter. (Pending any unfortunate delays, of course.) Let’s hope it gets here sooner rather than later.

Well, well, well. It was only  a matter of time before something like this popped up. Evidence has been mounting over the past couple of months suggesting Verizon would be introducing a sequel to the HTC Droid Incredible We’ve always believed it, of course, but there have been more than just a few skeptics out there. Now we have a shot of a supposed case that’ll go on sale alongside the device. There’s not much you can say about a case, but its emergence does mean we’re just another step closer to its launch date. (Though it’s still unclear when exactly that is.) [Droid-Life]
