Official: Froyo update for the AT&T Samsung Captivate will be released tomorrow

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:32 PM PST

Hoping to stave off any additional backlash from the delayed Samsung Captivate update, AT&T has announced that the Froyo update for the handset will be made available tomorrow.  The announcement came from AT&T's Facebook page which indicates that the Samsung Captivate Froyo update may need to be installed manually rather than being pushed out over the air.  We'll have to wait until tomorrow for more instructions from Samsung on how to install the update.

With the Android 2.2 update for the Samsung Captivate scheduled for tomorrow, the only Galaxy S handset left to be updated will be Verizon's Samsung Fascinate.  Anyone care to bet on when Verizon decides to roll out their Android 2.2 update?

Great news for Samsung Captivate owners! The Android 2.2 upgrade is coming tomorrow! We'll post a link here to the Samsung site with instructions to install the upgrade tomorrow.AT&T via Facebook

Midweek Madness- Win any Angry Birds plush toy!

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 11:08 AM PST

After a slight lapse in scheduling we’re back with another dose of Midweek Madness. This time we’re giving away one of the new, official Angry Bird plush toys from Rovio. We ordered our full set of birds and pigs back in December and they just arrived- these things must be in high demand!

As always, we’ve got your back. Over the next few weeks we’ll be giving away our entire set, to you, the loyal reader. To kick things off, we’re giving away ONE plush today to a lucky tweeter. Since we’ve got the full set intact, today’s winner can pick ANY plush they want. Personally, I prefer this guy:

To enter, simply tell us in a tweet which plush you want and why. If you’re not familiar with the Angry Birds character lineup, you can double check it over at the Rovio Shop. To win, all you need to do is include our username @androidandme and the hashtag #TeamAndroid in the tweet. For example, you could tweet:

“I really want the blackbird because he is totally the bomb! @androidandme #teamandroid”

or

“@androidandme I want that awesome pig with the helmet to join #TeamAndroid because he goes hard.”

To make entry as easy as possible, I’ve included a tweetbox below. Feel free to use it to enter the contest, but it isn’t required. You can always tweet from your favorite client or app and still be counted. All that is required is that you include @androidandme and #TeamAndroid.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G now available from T-Mobile

Posted: 23 Feb 2011 07:59 AM PST

T-Mobile customers looking for another 4G handset option can now pick up the all new Samsung Galaxy S 4G.  In order to be clear, the Samsung Galaxy S 4G is really just a rehash of the original Samsung Vibrant loaded up with Inception and equipped with a new radio chip which allows you to jump on T-Mobile's 4G HSPA+ network.  While the Galaxy S 4G isn't the first 4G phone on T-Mobile's network, it is the first handset capable of reaching download speeds of up to 21 mbps while the myTouch 4G and T-Mobile G2 both max out at 14.4 mbps.  That may not make a huge difference right now, but anyone who picks up the Galaxy S 4G should see some significant speeds increases once T-Mobile doubles their HSPA+ network speeds from 21 mbps to 42 mbps later this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G is being sold for $199.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and two year contract discount.  T-Mobile customers on Even More Plus plans will need to pony up $499.99.  It may not be much of a refresh, but the Samsung Galaxy S 4G  may be the first phone from T-Mobile that will be able to compete with the LTE speeds Verizon is about to unleash with the HTC Thunderbolt.
