Motorola Atrix 4G Launching Early, Xoom Pre-Sales Later Posted: 17 Feb 2011 12:28 AM PST If you have been waiting on the Motorola Atrix 4G you will be happy to know the launch is coming earlier than expected with the downside of the Motorola Xoom Tablet being pushed back a little. The Motorola Atrix 4G has been pushed forward to a new date of Feb. 22 and the Motorola Xoom pre-sales back to Feb. 20th according to Engadget. Just a little note about the Motorola Xoom, we held a poll yesterday and it seems the Xoom is the most popular tablet that our readers would love to buy, we asked the question "HTC Flyer or Motorola Xoom: What would be your smart choice?" and the results so far show that 76.0%, 128 Votes went towards the Motorola Xoom, HTC Flyer (13.0%, 22 Votes), You know what I would prefer the iPad 2 (8.0%, 13 Votes), The Playbook from BlackBerry for me please (2.0%, 3 Votes) and None of the above thanks (1.0%, 2 Votes). Check out the poll here and have your vote. AT&T service reps are receiving inbox messages stating that the Atrix 4G smartphone is coming earlier than expected (Around about a week early in fact), and according to Droid-Life a Best Buy memo the Motorola Xoom pre-sales will happen now on February 20th, which is when you can spend your hard earned $800. Droid-Life also say that you cannot re-activate the data package on the Xoom whenever you like at no cost, there will be an activation charge when you re-activate. Please do let us know what you think of the news above, do join us on Twitter or Facebook for updates, maybe you would like to hit the Tweet button to let everyone know. |
Desktops & Laptops Dying Due to Smartphone Sales Posted: 16 Feb 2011 02:59 PM PST We have said all along that smartphones and tablets are the way forward and so much so that they will kill off desktops and laptops within time, and now it seems to be heading that way according to a new survey. Apparently and according to The Telegraph more mobile phones were sold that computers last year thanks to a new research and that PC's were outsold by smartphones in the last quarter of 2010. With many new smartphones like the Apple iPhone 4 and many Android smartphones that would take ages to list seems to be killing off desktops and laptops, around 100.9 million smartphones were shipped in October, November and December of 2010, whereas only 92.1 million PC shipments were listed. The above numbers means that smartphone sales were up 87 per cent on the same period in 2009 and only three per cent up for PC shipments. According to the source above IDC analyst Ramon Llamas said this is the case because PCs and smartphones serve different purposes. Many new tablets are being announced of late and these will start to overtake PC sales as well and with smartphone prices falling to an all time low for the buyer it seems desktops and laptops is a dying market. Many smartphones and tablets are being sold in supermarkets such as Tesco's, which means the market will only get stronger for these devices. Do you think the desktop and laptop will die a slow death to smartphones and tablets? We would love to know what you think. |

Apple iPad Yahoo! Livestand Hands on Video Posted: 16 Feb 2011 01:03 PM PST A few days ago we posted an article concerning Yahoo! Livestand coming to both the Apple iPad and Android devices, and now we have a hands-on video of Yahoo! Livestand, running on the Apple iPad for your viewing pleasure below. The Yahoo! Livestand app hands on footage comes our way courtesy of the guys over at Daily iPhone Blog and by way of the guys over at Intomobile who tried out the new personalised content aggregator for tablet devices. The Yahoo! Livestand app delivers digital content from numerous sources but will initially start off with just Yahoo! content and will be added more content publishers as they go on to deliver interactions with articles, photos, news and more. Not a great deal else to be said other than it seems Yahoo! is going up against the iPad app The Daily with this one, but then iOS can’t have it all its own way forever. So all that remains is for you to check out Yahoo! Livestand playing nice on the Apple iPad…enjoy. |
MWC 2011 Awards iPhone 4 Best Mobile Device Posted: 16 Feb 2011 12:50 PM PST Well as you probably know during Mobile World Congress, they usually slap a few awards around to those they consider deserving and this years MWC event isn’t any different with the GSMA awarding the phone of the year award to none other than to Apple’s darling smartphone. According to an article over on Daily iPhone Blog the GSMA have named the iPhone 4 as the device of the year, with judges commenting that the iPhone 4 has a ” Great screen, sharp design, fantastic materials, and phenomenal ecosystem for app developers. In a tight race, the iPhone 4 built on the success of its predecessors to set the pace for smart phones.” Which doesn’t really surprise anyone I bet. The award for device manufacturer of the year though went to HTC and the judges commented that the HTC desire ” set the bar for Android phones across much of the world in 2010. Packed with great features, this is an enduring product that has performed consistently well.” The Best Mobile App award went to Rovio/Clickgamer/ Chillingo for you’ve guessed it…Angry Birds, with the judges commenting, ” This is an application that is simple, intuitive, incredibly addictive, and perfect for "snacking" consumption. It has underlined the importance of the applications market, and helped raise the credibility of small independent developers outside the mainstream.” |
Ten Most Pricey Smartphones In The World Posted: 16 Feb 2011 09:20 AM PST In this world there are those that have and those that don’t, and those that have can also afford the expense of a luxury smartphone, although with some of the wallet busting prices for a luxury phone only the filthy rich can afford such an extravagance. So with this in mind what are the ten most expensive phones in the world? Well the guys over at Tech UK have come up with their list of 10 of the world’s most expensive phones, so we thought we’d pass that list along… First up is the Diamond Rose iPhone 4, this luxury iOS handset is available from Stuart Hughes and will set you back a gut busting 5 million quid for its rose gold case sporting five hundred flawless sparklers, with a platinum navigation control set with a pink rose solitaire diamond. Have to say though if you happen to have £5 million to throw away on an iPhone 4 you may be out of luck as only 2 have been made, not that I really wanted one anyway. Moving on, we have a BlackBerry, but no ordinary RIM handset, but the Diamond BlackBerry Amosu Curva that sports an 18 carat gold case covered in a rather excessive 4500 brilliant cut diamonds and all for squeezing your bank account for only 120,000 quid. Of course with the Diamond BlackBerry Amosu Curva you can always shell out to have your moniker scribbled on the battery cover to make it more personalised, at an extra cost no doubt, and if you want one there are only 3 been made by Amosu. Next up for the not so filthy rich is the GoldVish Le Million, although not costing a million. The Goldvish Le Million sports a heavyweight 350 grams 18 carat white gold case on which sit a 120 carats of WS1 grade sparklers. The GoldVish Le Million will throttle your bank manager for some 842,000 of your hard earned pounds, which is actually a million euro so probably why it’s called the Le Million and is a limited edition to just three. Moving only slightly down market we have the Gresso Luxor Las Vegas Jackpot, and you’d probably need to hit Las Vegas and win a jackpot to fork out the £643,00 or $1 million US asking price. Only three of the Gresso Luxor Las Vegas Jackpot exists sporting a 180 gram gold case with 200-year old African Blackwood rear panel, while the front is encrusted with 45.5 carat’s worth of black diamonds and each key on the keyboard is made from sapphire crystal. At the halfway mark we have the Nokia Supreme smartphone that gives the owner 83 grams of platinum along with 12.5 carat of pink diamonds, and a 3-carat single uncut flawless diamond set in the navigation button. The Nokia Supreme from Stuart Hughes, will make your bank manager burst into floods of tears when you shell out the £99,995 asking price, but for that you will also receive a granite case with leather bound interior, oh goodie. Then we have the Vertu Constellation Quest, I’m sure you’ve heard of Vertu, Nokia’s luxury phone arm. Apparently each of these devices is hand crafted in Hampshire, just up the road from me then although no discount for living close. The gold finish Vertu Constellation Quest casts a mere lowly £17,200, so perhaps you might like to have two or if you prefer there is a basic version for only 5000 quid, still out of my price range though. Moving along, we have the Ulysse Nardin Chairman Diamond Edition, which captures your eye with over 200 brilliant hand cut orbs of a girls best friend shoved into its 18 carat white gold housing and all constructed by hand. The Ulysse Nardin Chairman Diamond Edition even has a functioning mechanical rotor slapped in its rear and will rip your chequebook for a lowly £80,000, but don’t worry because at least you’ll be able to tell the time. Almost there is the Band & Olufsen Serenata Diamond Edition from again Stuart Hughes, of which just ten will be made and will sport a 140 gram 24 carat solid gold facia and rear release, along with a solid gold bezel sporting 16.25 carat of sparklers. That gold bezel also covers the handset scrolling mechanism, all for a pitiful £45,000, and to keep your Band & Olufsen Serenata Diamond Edition free from the rigours of daily life you get a hand finished ostrich feet wallet just so you don't bury your head in the sand. Only one away we have the Diamond Nokia N95, and no it won't come with Windows Phone 7 even at an asking price of 27,500 quid and only 25 ever being manufactured by Amosu. What you do get for your cash is the Diamond Nokia N95 sporting some 675 brilliant cut diamonds over an 18-carat white gold housing, and apparently if you decide to change your handset can be transferred to your next device, at an extra cost no doubt. Lastly we have the Motorola Aura Diamond Edition available from none other than Motorola, and is for the more downmarket extravagant who only want to reluctantly hand over £3500. The Motorola Aura Diamond Edition sports an 18-carat gold plated casing and navigation key (not real, real gold then) and features a 62-carat sapphire crystal screen, but as they say, you get what you pay for. So there it is the ten most expensive smartphones in the world, only the filthy rich need apply other than for the Motorola one of course, which the moderately rich can apply for. There you have it, enough cash to waste on luxury smartphones, which you could do so much more with. Would you want one of these? Personally I wouldn’t, just think of the extra costs if you drop a bugger? |

Android Honeycomb LG Optimus Pad Gains Review Posted: 16 Feb 2011 07:21 AM PST As you are no doubt aware, LG is hitting the tablet game with their new LG Optimus Pad, an 8.9-inch tablet that will come out to play sporting the tablet specific operating system Android 3.0 Honeycomb and pack an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processor. An article on Tech UK reports that whilst at MWC 2011 in Barcelona the guys over at Techradar managed to get some hands-on playtime with the LG Optimus Pad and have given the Honeycomb tablet a review. The Techradar guys say that the Tegra 2 chip in the LG Optimus Pad really shows performance wise and they were able to zip round the interface at speed, and although a little dark and imposing Android 3.0 Honeycomb is excellent and includes Google talk as standard. Comparing the LG Optimus Pad to the Motorola Xoom when it comes to ports the guys said the Optimus Pad ports layout is better than the Motorola Xoom, which is “a mess”. Keyboard wise the LG Optimus Pad is quick and responsive and as for screen orientation switching they say the Optimus Pad is quick and more responsive than the HP TouchPad. You can check out the full LG Optimus Pad review by hitting up their website which also has an abundance of images, and we have a little MWC 2011 LG Optimus Pad video footage for your viewing pleasure below courtesy of the guys over at MobileBurn, so mash that play button and check it out…enjoy. |

Could HTC Flyer Take on Apple iPad 2 and BlackBerry PlayBook Posted: 16 Feb 2011 05:16 AM PST As you are probably aware, HTC has unveiled their first device within the tablet arena, their Android HTC Flyer, and although HTC is coming a little late to the game as the HTC Flyer doesn’t support Android Honeycomb could the device stand up to its rivals? According to an article over on Itporportal, they hope that the 7-inch HTC Flyer will stand a chance against the Apple iPad 2 although the device will probable be compared to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The word is HTC expects to release the HTC Flyer sometime in the second half of the years, probably near the same time as the BlackBerry PlayBook and of course the Apple iPad 2. But would the HTC Flyer stand a chance against the BlackBerry PlaBook and iPad2? Well when you consider the Motorola Xoom and other tablets should be out around that time and carrying Android Honeycomb, perhaps the HTC Flyer is at a disadvantage before it starts. Whatever the case, we all know that the Apple iPad 2 will do the usual for Apple sales, and the BlackBerry PlayBook should be a big winner for RIM, but whether the Flyer will be a big hit for HTC remains to be seen. HTC Flyer first look video for your viewing consideration below…enjoy. |

iPhone 5 Sporting a 4 inch Display Visualised Posted: 16 Feb 2011 04:56 AM PST Ah the never-ending speculation that is the next generation iPhone, namely the iPhone 5. Thus far we have heard that the iPhone 5 may turn into a QWERTY sporting iPhone, may have a bigger camera, and even be a mini iPhone 5. Well apparently the latest is that the next generation iOS handset may appear packing a 4-inch display, and thanks to the guys over at 9to5 Mac, and by way of Twitter user Arnold Kim we have a visualisation of what a 4-inch display would look like on the iPhone 5. In the image the new larger display placed on the same size iPhone as the current iPhone 4 would fit edge to edge apparently, which apparently no mobile phone can do at the moment so if true perhaps the Apple geniuses have found a way. Personally I’m not too sure if I would like an edge to edge display and it would make handling the handset a tad difficult I would have thought because as soon as you pick it up wouldn’t your flesh activate something by touching the display immediately, I know I do this even on my Samsung Galaxy S at times. So what do our reader’s think about an iPhone 5 with an edge-to-edge display, do you think it’s a plausible idea or not? |
