SONY Ericsson XPERIA Play announcement, specs, images, and videos Posted: 14 Feb 2011 07:06 AM PST The SONY Ericsson XPERIA Play (possibly the worst kept secret in the Android world over the past few months) has finally been unveiled. While there's been a lot of hype around this new handset, the specs are not that impressive. The SONY Ericsson XPERIA Play runs on Android 2.3 with a second generation 1GHz Snapdragon processor with the Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU, 4-inch 854 x 480 capacitive display, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and stereo speakers. Based off of those specs, the XPERIA Play could easily be confused with the XPERIA Arc. But what makes the XPERIA Play stand out from the crowd is the slide-out PlayStation Certified gaming controls. In order to make the XPERIA Play the best Android gaming handset available, SONY Ericsson is working with content partners like SONY Computer Entertainment, EA, Gameloft, Glu Mobile, and Digital Legends to make sure their titles can take full advantage of the dedicate gaming hardware on the handset. SONY Ericsson is promising that a library of over 50 titles form nearly 20 different publishers will be available at launch. No details were shared in regards to pricing, but SONY Ericsson did say that the XPERIA Play will launch in select global markers in March and that the handset will be a timed exclusive from Verizon in early spring.
