Android Gingerbread Update for Motorola Droid X Delayed Posted: 26 Mar 2011 06:02 AM PDT Yesterday the word was that owners of the Motorola Droid X smartphone could gain Android Gingerbread as of Sunday; however the word now is that the Gingerbread update for the device has now been delayed. According to an article over on Pocket Now by way of Droid-life, a tweet from @PydePypper broke the word that Verizon has rejected the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update and thus wont be rolled out Sunday or any time soon. The tweet said…“Pass the word folks just got word the GB build for the X was rejected by VZW so it is back to Moto 4 fixes. Talking another month 4 release” So if this latest rumour is spot on it looks like Motorola Droid X owners will have another four week to wait before there is any hope of Gingerbread coming to play on the Droid X as it will take this time for Motorola to tweak the software and return it for approval by Verizon. Thus for the time being, Droid X owners will have to be patient for a while longer, feel free to voice your annoyance to our comments area below. |
Apple iPad 2 International Release Attracts Long Queues Posted: 26 Mar 2011 04:47 AM PDT Well yesterday saw the release of Apple’s latest iOS tablet outside the US of A, and as expected many countries saw exceedingly long lines of customers waiting to get their hands on the Apple iPad 2, with apparently on potential owner in Sydney Australia queuing for a staggering 53 hours. According to an article over on the Boy Genius Report, lines for the Apple iPad 2 in other coutries were just as ridiculously long and have posted a video of one such Apple iPad 2 line outside the Apple retail store in the Toronto Eaton Center in Canada, which of course we have for your viewing below. The Apple iPad 2 queue filmed in the video by YouTube user Nlightn7, was shot at approximately 930 AM, and the iOS tablet wasn’t due to become available until 500 PM, so it just goes to show how long people are prepared to wait in line for the device, something I personally don't have the patience for. So check out the video footage below to see just how long that line was, and of course if you joined on of these line to gain the Apple iPad 2 anywhere in the world feel free to let us know if you managed to get the device before stocks ran out…enjoy. |
O2 UK Postpone Xperia Play Release But No Other Carrier Posted: 26 Mar 2011 04:15 AM PDT For those in the United Kingdom who were hoping to snap up the first PlayStation phone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play on the O2 UK network on the 1st of April, it appears that you’ll be out of luck as O2 wont be releasing the gaming smartphone on that date. According to an article over on Engadget, O2 announced via their official blog, that they have postponed the release of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread handset until further notice due to finding software bugs and thus will not offer the device to their customers until said bugs and issues have been ironed out. However, apparently no other UK carrier that is releasing the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has delayed the release date, with Vodafone still on track to push out their pre-orders for the gaming centric handset by the 5th of April. Here’s apparently what Sony Ericsson had to say about the release delay… “Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY will be launching on 1st April across all UK mobile operator partners except for O2, who have decided to prolong the testing period in order to ensure that the software meets the requirements of its procedures. Sony Ericsson will be working with O2 over the next couple of weeks to expedite the process and ensure that O2 customers can soon join consumers across the UK in being able to enjoy the world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone.” So there you have it, although one does have to give kudos to O2 UK for not wanting to deliver the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play laden with bugs, one does have to wonder why others haven’t commented that the device is suffering for issues. Thus if you are of the impatient kind and really want the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play on April Fools Day best not try to get it from O2, unless of course you want the white version, which is an O2 UK exclusive. |
