3 New iPhone 4 TV Ads Aired by Apple

Posted: 17 Mar 2011 08:53 AM PDT

Looks like Apple wants to make sure everyone knows all about the iPhone 4 even thought the iPhone 5 is expected to hit in a few months time, and thus Apple has now aired three new iPhone 4 TV commercials.

Apple is using the line “if you don't have an iPhone, you don’t have…” in these three latest video which come our way courtesy of the guys over at Macrumors and by way of the Apple YouTube page.

All three commercials last the usual 30-odd seconds, the first of which touts the iPhone 4 and the App Store, the second covers the iPhone 4 and that if you don't have it you don't have an iPod in your phone and iTunes, while the third touts that if you don’t have an iPhone you don't have iBooks.

All three commercials end with the line…”Yep, if you don't have an iPhone, well, you don’t have an iPhone,” which to me is kind of obvious but there you go.

Now wouldn’t it have been better with something like…”yep, if you don't have an iPhone, well, you probably have an Android,” just kidding folks…enjoy the videos.

HTC Thunderbolt Doesn’t Play Nice with Skype

Posted: 17 Mar 2011 08:28 AM PDT

Back when HTC first announced their latest Android 2.2 Froyo smartphone, the device that goes on sale today, the HTC Thunderbolt, one of the handsets main features was the ability to use Skype to make video calls.

However apparently the HTC Thunderbolt doesn’t come playing nice with Skype. According to an article over on Ubergizmo, Verizon commented that Skype wouldn’t be ready by the launch of the HTC Thunderbolt, and your Android Thunderbolt won’t have Skype on it when you purchase the device.

However, according to the Ubergizmo article the HTC Thunderbolt may never see Skype as Droid-life is reporting that all content and web pages that mention Skype on both Verizon and HTC sites has been pulled.

Apparently the Droid-life guys have done some digging and it appears that Skype is being obliterated from all material without any explanation and stickers have apparently been sent out to cover up any references to Skype on marketing material.

So will the HTC Thunderbolt ever gain Skype support? One would hope so, but for now it’s looking like users won’t be playing nice on Skype anytime soon.

Naturally we have that video for your viewing pleasure below which comes our way courtesy of the guys over at Ubergizmo and by way of theofficialLGgirl YouTube page.

Now whether this video footage was done as a sideways promotion for the LG G-Slate we can’t be sure, but the video does give a decent overview of the Android 3.0 Honeycomb sporting LG G-Slate.

Currently there’s no word on when the LG G-Slate will see the light of day other than the rumoured “springtime” and no word on what the Android tablet will hit your pocket for. Still all you really need to do is hit that play button and check out this preview of the LG G-Slate…enjoy.

iOS and Android Apps Being Developed for US Military

Posted: 17 Mar 2011 07:21 AM PDT

The humble mobile app it would seem is a much sought after thing by none other than the US military, particularly iOS and Android so that soldiers can apparently use cheaper products in the field.

According to an article over on Slash Gear and by way of Computer World, the military is looking into developing Android and iOS apps for use on the Apple iPad and Android based tablets that will apparently be deployed to help with recon.

Apparently the military would be able to use the apps and tables to send info quickly to command units and even remotely control camera aboard military drones.

The word is that the US military have contracted ISS and Harris with a view to developing the iOS and Android apps for the military, with Harris developing an app that will enable the military to control camera on a UVA and on the Apple iPad so soldiers and see what the UVA locates in the way of enemy weapons.

ISS is apparently developing apps for both the iPhone and Android devices that informs soldiers where the fighting is and what bombings have taken place and also transmits data back to the command centre for tactical evaluation.

And you thought mobile apps where just for passing the time when bored or for finding out where something is, seems mobile apps and mobile devices have a lot more uses than thought.

Posted: 17 Mar 2011 06:56 AM PDT

If you reside in the United Kingdom and have a hankering to own the new Android Gingerbread tablet out of the HTC stable, the HTC Flyer, which is reportedly due release sometime in April, you might like to know you can now pre-order the device.

According to an article over on T3, the first retailer to offer the Android HTC Flyer for pre-order in the UK is Clove although the tablet does come with quite a hefty price in tow, 600 quid inclusive of VAT.

However that £600 is not an official price from HTC so apparently that hefty asking price will be altered once HTC confirms the final pricing for the HTC Flyer.

The HTC Flyer is a 7-inch slate sporting a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera and 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, 1.5Ghz processor, 1GB RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, microSD expansion up to 32GB, GPS, Evernote sync, smart stylus, digital compass and ambient light sensor.

However, with the HTC Flyer coming out to play sporting that Android Gingerbread OS rather than Google’s tablet specific OS Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the HTC Flyer may have a battle on its hands against the likes of the Motorola Xoom and LG Optimus Pad.

iPhone 5 Cases Reveal Same Design As Current Model

Posted: 17 Mar 2011 02:39 AM PDT

If you are holding out for when Apple released their next generation iOS smartphone, the iPhone 5, don't expect it to look that much different from the current iPhone 4 as apparently images of what are reportedly iPhone 5 cases reveal the iPhone 5 design will be much the same as the iPhone 4.

According to an article over on 9to5 Mac, the source of several accurate cases for the Apple iPad 2, Alibaba, is showing iPhone 5 cases in their listings, and apparently the cases show the design to be almost identical to that of the iPhone 4.

These purported cases for the iPhone 5 sport camera and LED flash cut-outs to the rear, sleep/wake button and earphone jack holes at the top along with a SIM slot opening on the side although apparently case makers don't leave those ports open in cases.

According to Alibaba, the iPhone 5 2011 case is a hard case made from Polyester and is available in six colours.

The current rumour with the iPhone 5 is that the device will come out to play sporting a larger almost edge-to-edge display with a much thinner bezel, which came about from some design mold engineering drawings a while ago, which also shows the design of the iPhone 5 to be similar to the current iPhone 4.

Thus judging on the current evidence available it would appear that the new iPhone 5 wont look that dissimilar to what is available right now. Do you think Apple should have gone with a completely new design for the next generation iPhone?
