Two More Motorola Android Handsets Get Pictured: The Targa and Droid X2

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 02:01 PM PDT

You know, it’s just not a good day for Motorola. After JUST having what seems to be the DROID 3 get caught on camera, photos of two other devices — the Targa and Droid X2, both presumably for Verizon — have leaked out.

That big ol’ candybar slab up top is the “Targa”. Alas, we don’t know much about it — but here’s what we do:

  • Verizon 4G LTE support
  • Front and rear cameras
  • HDMI Video Output
  • microUSB port
  • Capacitive touch buttons on the face
  • 802.11b/g/n
  • Bluetooth

Next up, the Droid X2 (codenamed Daytona):

As far as we can tell, this one’s not capable of running on Verizon’s 4G network, making it a upper-middle range successor to the Droid X (with the Targa up above and the previously announced Droid BIONIC leading as Verizon’s 4G flagship handsets).

The rumored specs, thus far:

  • 4.3 inch qHD (960×540) display
  • 1Ghz Tegra 2 CPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 802.11b/g/n
  • Bluetooth

Motorola DROID 3 Gets Caught On Camera

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 01:36 PM PDT

Just as another year always seems to bring another iPhone, it’s starting to look like Motorola plans on churning out an annual DROID. A trio of spy shots of this year’s entry have just leaked out (two more shots after the jump). There’s not much to say that you can’t see for yourself from the photo, but a few highlights:

  • Dedicated number row! No more hitting the alt key for numbers!
  • Looks like there’s an HDMI out port there next to the microUSB
  • As with the Droid 2, the Droid 3 abandons the D-Pad found on the Droid 1 in favor of standard arrow keys

Unannounced “HTC Shooter” Spotted Testing Its Stuff; Is This The Next Sprint EVO?

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 12:17 PM PDT

Uh oh! Looks like someone was testing a thus-far unannounced HTC superphone (the “HTC Shooter”) for Sprint and didn’t realize some of the results were being uploaded to the Interwebs.

You see, it’s pretty important for hardware engineers to know exactly how well their shiny new handsets can churn through 3D compared to the competition. To test this on Android, there’s a tool called GLBenchmark — but it has a caveat: by default, it uploads your results to an online catalog for others to peruse.

And there she sits: right in between the HTC Aria and the HD Mini are the results for the HTC Shooter. Unfortunately (well, for us. For HTC, it’s probably a good thing), the benchmarking software doesn’t.. you know, somehow convince the person benchmarking the phone to upload a photo or anything, so all we’ve got for now are a name and a few details.

Here’s what we know:

  • Currently dubbed the “HTC Shooter”. This name is likely to change (See below).
  • Runs on Sprint
  • Runs Android 2.3.2 (Gingerbread)
  • 960×540 resolution display
  • Based on the GPU (Adreno 220), it’s likely based on a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU
  • Based on the specs and the carrier, it’s being thrown around that this is very possibly the next EVO (rumored to be called the “EVO 3D”, because the world needs more 3D phones)

You can check out the Shooter’s test results for yourself right here.

This Is Somehow Supposed To Be An Ad For Android

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 11:04 AM PDT

Overheard at Dutch retailer The Phone House:

Tom, The Ad Guy: Guys! Guys! I got it.

Colleagues: Got what?

Tom: An idea for our next big marketing stunt. Okay. First, we smash a car to hell. Like we straight up total it, smoke coming out of the sides, the works. Okay? Now get this: we put a gigantic Android on top of the car. Bam.

The room was silent, which Tom took to mean that everyone thought it was a good idea.
