Sony-Ericsson’s Xperia Mini And Mini Pro Are Officially Small Posted: 05 May 2011 02:08 PM PDT
The two phones are, spec-wise, more or less the same (the battery in the pro is ever-so-slightly smaller), the main difference being, of course, the slide-out keyboard on the pro. You better have some tiny fingers to operate that thing! But it’s nice to have the option. We’ll let you know how it feels when we get our hands on it. Android 2.3 (huzzah!) is customized (nayyy!) with a skin that lets you tuck apps into corners — I actually like the idea, if it works. Again, we’ll see about that later. The phones are set to launch in August, but there are no carriers signed up just yet. The launch event was in London, as well, so it could be a while before they take up residence on this side of the pond. |
And The Winner Of The 1.5 Ghz Qualcomm Android Developer Device Is… Posted: 05 May 2011 02:07 PM PDT To say that our latest contest was a success would be… a bit of an understatement. Most of our giveaways pull in a few hundred entries, or maybe a bit over a thousand. Between comments here on MobileCrunch, Facebook passphrase hunters, and those who took the time to dig up all of the eggs we hid around the site, our giveaway of the insanely awesome 1.5 Ghz Android Developer Device from Qualcomm managed to pull in many, many times that. Unfortunately, amongst the many thousands of entries we received, there can only be one winner. After hours of churnin’ away after the contest closed last night, our handy-dandy contest robots (which may or may not just be Greg with a bunch of PHP scripts and and a massive pot of coffee) have drawn a winner. And the winner is… Paul M. Of Connecticut! (Note: The winning Paul M. has already been contacted; if you also happen to be a Paul M. from Connecticut but weren’t contacted, we still love you, but you’re not a winner this time.) Huge thanks to everyone who entered (we hope you all had fun!) and a mega-huge thanks to Qualcomm and Bsquare for providing the device. |
Hands On With The Infuse 4G On AT&T Posted: 05 May 2011 01:30 PM PDT I’ve never been a big fan of the “big phone” design so popular these past few years, starting with the HD2. However, I actually think I could carry around this big, flat (just 8.9mm, which Samsung is touting as the thinnest 4G device yet), and light 1.2GHz Android phone. Sure, it’s a monster — but it’s as thin as the iPhone, and the screen (4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus model) is strikingly clear. It is, in fact, the first phone I could consider watching movies on during a long plane ride. Is it too big for some? Absolutely. But Samsung is blurring the line between big smartphones and small tablets more than it’s ever been blurred before — and as the success of the Droid X has proven, that’s exactly what some people want. |
Samsung Infuse 4G To Hit AT&T On May 15th For $200 Posted: 05 May 2011 01:27 PM PDT Hurrah! While it’s no secret that AT&T has been planning to offer up the Samsung Infuse 4G (with its absolutely gigantic 4.5″ Super AMOLED Plus display and 1.2 Ghz CPU), they’ve kept two little details under wraps: the price, and the launch date. Consider those bits unwrapped. At a press conference in New York this afternoon, Samsung and AT&T have confirmed that the Samsung Infuse 4G should hit the shelves on May 15th for $200 bucks on a 2-year contract. Full press release behind the jump. The Specs:

HTC Kingdom Gets A Proper Photo Leak, Specs Revealed Posted: 05 May 2011 10:35 AM PDT Well thats a much better picture of the HTC Kingdom than that one from last week, wouldn’t you say? Plus, this one comes paired with specs. Tasty, tasty specs. Find’em after the jump.
Put it all together, and it looks like we’re lookin’ at what Sprint will presumably call the HTC EVO 2. |
Motorola Goes White And Blue Collar With The Motorola XPRT And Motorola Titanium Posted: 05 May 2011 06:23 AM PDT
The XPRT is Sprint’s first Android phone with enterprise-class security, which comes by way 256-bit AES data encryption and enterprise-controlled security schemes and functions including remote wipe, password recovery and enabling various locks. A 3.1-inch HVGA screen rests above a full QWERTY keypad with a 1GHz processor running A Motoblur’d Android 2.2. The XPRT is hitting all of Sprint’s retail channels June 5 for $129. The Titanium keeps Direct Connect alive with a full Qwerty keypad, 3.1-inch touchscreen and Android 2.1. The iDEN device of course meets military specs for dust, shock vibration, solar radiation — pretty much anything Hal Jordan could manifest. The Titanium is the successor to the Motorola i1 launched last year and will probably make some push-to-talk loyests happy to finally join the cool kids with their own Android 2.x phone. Pricing and availability wasn’t announced. |
