AT&T, T-Mobile USA Merger will see Job and Market Losses

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 06:00 AM PDT

If you are of the ilk that the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile USA if it is given approval by the powers that be, wont deliver any bad side, think again as the word is the merger would create job losses and market losses.

According to an article over on Phandroid, the chief exec of AT&T Randall Stephenson has spoken to the Wall Street Journal saying, “We anticipate there will be some markets we will have to divest.”

Although the exec couldn’t say which markets would be affected by the merger, and dismissed the notion that the merger if it goes ahead would be bad for competition… “This industry is anything but a duopoly. The industry is intensely competitive now, and will be intensely competitive after the deal.”

Another roll on effect should the acquisition of T-Mobile be given the official go ahead is that some employees will be left without a job, which apparently is a common side affect of a merger, although there’s no word on just how many employees would lose their employment.

We’d like to hear from our readers and what they feel about the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile USA, do you think it is a good move or bad, will AT&T becoming bigger be bad or good for competition in your view?

States Attorney Concerns over the AT&T, T-Mobile deal video for your viewing pleasure below so feel free to check it out.

iPad 2 Xray Hack: Jason Bradbury April Fools Joke?

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 05:42 AM PDT

Can you really use the new Apple iPad 2 camera as an Xray machine? Well, there is a new video of a new iPad 2 Xray hack by Jason Bradbury.

The Gadget Show presenter is in a YouTube video courtesy of Expansys TV where he has discovered that the Apple iPad 2 can be used as an Xray machine using some cling film and an infrared digital camera lens, oh and a person to take a photo of Jason Bradbury.

Jason wraps the iPad 2 camera in clingfilm just twice as that is enough, aligns the infrared camera and gives the iPad 2 to another man who takes the photo of Jason, when the present gets the iPad 2 back he strips of the clingfilm and shows us the photo of himself.

Yes the photo does show that you can see right through Jason Bradbury's clothes, like the superman boxer shorts Mr Gadget Show man.

Personally we believe this to be a hoax, you know an April Fools Day joke, please watch the video and let us know what you think. Is it real or just a prank?

Angry Birds Rio App Released on Android Market

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 05:15 AM PDT

The next instalment of the hugely popular multi-platform mobile game Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio was originally exclusive to the Amazon Android Appstore and users had to pay for the privalage of downloading and playing the app.

However according to the Boy Genius Report, that exclusivity has now gone and Rovio has released Angry Birds Rio for Android to the Android Market, and about time too; furthermore the Angry Birds Rio app is free.

When Rovio gave Angry Birds Rio exclusively to Amazon they basically cut out the millions of international Angry Birds fans as anyone outside the US couldn’t download the new app, so at least now Rovio has put that straight and international users such as myself can grab the app from the Android Market.

In Angry Birds Rio you no longer get to smash the living daylights out of those pesky green pigs, but have to liberate birds from cages in the usual manner of launching the Angry Birds. The app has 2 episodes delivering a total of 60 levels, hidden fruits, and now features achievements, and the app will get episodic updates every month right through November.

So for all you Android Angry Birds fans that couldn't grab the new game before you can go grab it now, just like I did…video gameplay trailer below.

Sn0wbreeze Beta Video: iPhone 3GS Untethered Jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 05:10 AM PDT

If you own the Apple iPhone 3GS you will be happy to know that it can now run the Untethered Jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1 and to do this you need the new Sn0wbreeze Beta jailbreak tool.

The new Windows jailbreak tool aka Sn0wbreeze has been updated to give a tethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1 and iDB mentioned the new release beta a few days ago and some of you have already been successful jailbreaking your iPhone on 4.3.1.

iDB do recommend holding off on iOS 4.3.1 until an untethered solution is released from the Dev Team because the Sn0wbreeze beta is a tethered jailbreak, but to their surprise one of their readers called Ryan (ryandodge) sent in a video (Shown below courtesy of YouTube) of his iPhone 3GS running an untethered jailbreak after using the latest Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1.

Ryan did say:

"Don't quote me, but mine is. I don't know how, or why. I had to restore it really weird, because my Power button is broken, and I had to restore to a custom, hacked 3.1.3 firmware to cause it to enter DFU Mode. Then, I used that DFU Mode to restore to my cooked Sn0wbreeze 4.3.1 firmware. So, when I installed WinterBoard, and my phone restarted, I expected to have to do some cooky thing to make Cydia work, but… it just worked. I can make a video if I must."

If you watch the video below it does show that his iPhone 3GS is running Cydia 1.1 untethered after using the Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1 jailbreak.

Please let us know what you think of the video provided below, is this something you would do or have you already tried it out?

Apple iPad Full Photoshop iOS App Coming: Demo Video

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 04:50 AM PDT

iOS users are no doubt aware that the Photoshop Express app for iOS devices has been available for a while from the App Store, but really isn't a fully features experience of Adobe Photoshop, but the word is that will soon change.

According to an article over on Phone Arena, by way of Electric Pig and Photography Bay, a fully functional Photoshop iOS app is coming for the Apple iPad, and we have a demonstration video of said app for your consideration below courtesy of YouTube user Zaone.

The video demo shows the interface of the “real” touch screen Photoshop app and shows off some astonishing effects with animated layers and shows what layers look like for people that don't quite understand the process of layers.

The video footage was captured during the keynote of Photoshop World 2011, and apparently the Photoshop app for iOS devices is still in development so no word on just when the app will be available or at what cost…enjoy the footage.

Microsoft Launching Similar NFC Tech into Windows Phone Software

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 04:30 AM PDT

Can Microsoft go up against the likes of Google and Apple when it comes to mobile-payment technology? This is a good question considering Microsoft Corp is working on a new version of its Windows Phone software to include similar NFC tech.

Microsoft is getting in on the act where you can simply buy products with a quick flick of the handset and a checkout counter.

This is great news if Microsoft adds the mobile-payment technology in its smartphones operating system, hopefully when this does happen it will nudge them forward a little step or two to narrow the gap between Google and its software.

The first handsets with this new technology could possibly be released this year if all goes according to plan, the new Microsoft software according to boston.com will be based on so-called Near Field Communication. Google have already introduced NFC capabilities into its devices in 2010 and Apple is working on it right now.

Do you think Microsoft with the new mobile payment technology can close the market gap against Google and Apple?

Controversial WankoMeter Android App: Your Views

Posted: 31 Mar 2011 04:18 AM PDT

Okay, to be honest when I first saw this Android app I laughed and thought it has to be some kind of early April Fools Day prank, but it appears that this controversial app is actually available to download from the Android Market.

The aforementioned app is called WankoMeter, and obviously doesn’t need any explanation as to what it refers to, the self-pleasuring of men, and apparently is a mobile app to enable guys to track and enhance their performance.

However, apparently the WankoMeter app for Android devices has already seen around 30,000 downloads in the last couple of weeks and has garnered a star rating of 4.5 on the Android Market, so one could presume there are quite a few guys getting handy with themselves out there.

Now I’m all for dragging sex out of the darkened corners where it has lurked in the past, but delivering a mobile app that basically is supposed to help a guy achieve the perfect self pleasuring act is taking things a bit too far don't you think?

Obviously the WankoMeter app would never make it into Apple’s iPhone App Store, but Android doesn't appear to be so fussy when it comes to controversial apps being available which can be downloaded by anyone of any age.

So we’d like to know your views on the Wankometer app, is it good or bad the Android Market has allowed the app, should it come with a sexual warning and somehow be restricted by age requiring the use of a credit card to download perhaps as currently the app is free from the Android Market.

Whatever your views on WankoMeter, whether it should be removed or is giving a service to men, we would like you to submit your vote in our poll below…many thanks.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.
