New Motorola Android Rugged Tablet Specs

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 10:18 AM PDT

If you have been wondering, just what Motorola have been up to recently, we may have the answer. It would appear that they might have been possibly designing a new rugged Android tablet.

A slide of what appears to be a new Motorola Android tablet has somehow found its way onto to the web, but on this occasion, it would appear from the slide the tablet might be more enterprise-oriented.

According to the slide, which was brought to our attention by CrunchGear via Ubergizmo the tablet will come with some great specs, like a 7″ display, OMAP4 dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GH of RAM, and the not expected Android 2.3. It also features an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera and is Bluetooth & WiFi enabled.

The tablet which has yet to be named, also comes with some interesting features that will separate it from the other tablets out there, such as enterprise software, stylus support, signature capture, USB connectivity for accessories and has a removable Smart Li-Ion battery. It is also expected to be built to withstanding 4′ drops to plywood, IP54 sealed and have the ability to still function in temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius.

Now, it is not know whether this is an old slide, that has been put about to get tongues wagging or could it be a case of Motorola trying to bring something different to the table, after what appears to be a flop for the Motorola Xoom in the US.

Also, if this tablet is ever launched will it be released all over the world, as in the case of the Motorla Xoom which is expected to release in Australia sometime very soon via Telstra. Do you like the specs shown on the slide? What specs would you like to see? Let us know.

Samsung Galaxy S II Better than Droid X & EVO

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 06:18 AM PDT

How good is the Samsung Galaxy S II, well with the addition of a 1.2GHz processor the speed of the phone seems to have put it above the rest?

The Galaxy S II is operating on a 1.2GHz processor, which makes it operate very fast. In Quadrant this quick dual-core Exynos CPU obtained a 3,053 and was twice the speed of that obtained by the HTC Sensation in the Smartbench 2011.

A test was done on the speed of the Samsung Galaxy S II against a number of other smartphones, HTC Magic, Motorola Droid, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i, HTC Desire, Nexus one, Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Evo and Motorola Droid X. The results of the test were good news for the Galaxy S II as its speed surpassed the others quite easily. However, please note that these results are just synthetic benchmarks and do not equate into an equally improved experience for day-to-day usage.

Why not check out the screen print of the chart, showing the overall result on Engadget. The results also show that the new Samsung Galaxy S II was three times as fast as its predecessor the Samsung Galaxy S. Also, according to an article by Pocketnow the Galaxy S II will launch on May 1 in the UK.

Angry Birds Comes to Windows Phone 7 25th May

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 06:07 AM PDT

It appears that owners of Windows Phone 7 smartphone will soon be able to get in on some green pig bashing as word has it that the hugely popular multi-platform mobile game from Rovio, Angry Birds is heading for Windows Phone 7 device.

According to an article over on the Boy Genius Report, Microsoft vice president Joe Belfiore, during a meeting with allthingsD has confirmed that Angry Birds will release on Windows Phone 7 as of the 25th of next month.

Unfortunately Belfiore didn't make any hints at whether Angry Birds for Window Phone 7 would be free like Android or cost like iOS; furthermore it is unclear at this time what version of Angry Birds will become available via the Windows marketplace.

Thus come the 25th of May not only will Windows Phone 7 gain some Angry Birds action, but this will mean that the only modern operating system not to support the Angry Birds game will be BlackBerry, but no doubt Rovio will eventually have their game on all platforms.

iPhone 5 Release Now September or October Says Analyst

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 05:20 AM PDT

It seems there is a never-ending debate by analysts on just when Apple is likely to deliver the release of the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5, with speculation either pointing towards June/July, August/September or sometime in 2012.

However a new iPhone 5 release date has now entered the debate as according to an article over on Economy News, investment bank Jeffries say they expect the iPhone 5 to launch in September/October.

Apparently an analyst mentioned in a note… “The strength of the HTC Thunderbolt at Verizon and the likely success of competitively priced LTE Android tablets may indeed cause Apple some heartache if it does not have a response until 2012. We think a Sep/Oct unification launch for iOS devices makes sense and also see an LTE iPad launch in the Fall as a possibility (though not as likely as the iPhone 5).”

So depending on what you tend to believe, Apple might release the iPhone 5 in June, or July, or August, or September, or October, or later this year, or early next year, and if you believe this latest prediction we may also be seeing an LTE enabled Apple iPad, but if that’s the case what about an LTE enabled iPhone?

I’ve said it many times before and will continue saying it, not all the analysts can be right, and the only people who know for sure about release dates for iOS devices work for Apple, the iPhone 5 will release when it releases that’s all we can really say for sure.

Apple iPad 2 Dock Torn Down

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 04:52 AM PDT

Apparently its not just smartphones and tablets that get the teardown treatment these days as accessories do as well, as the Apple iPad 2 dock and Apple iPad dock has now been given the teardown treatment.

According to an article over on 9to5 Mac the guys over at iLounge have taken screwdriver to iPad dock and done the necessary deed to discover what the Apple gear accessory hides within its shell and discovers why the iPad 2 dock is heavier than the iPad 1 dock.

So the reason is apparently Apple shove a metal plate inside their iOS docks, here’s what iLounge says…

” First, if you've ever wondered how Apple gets those docks to feel substantial, the answer's not tiny sandbags. Each version of the Dock actually has a huge, heavy metal plate inside molded with a "Zinc-3" legend on its undercarriage. These plates actually jut up to form the reclining mini-walls found behind the iPads, which is to say that Apple's Docks are far sturdier than their pretty little glossy white plastic exteriors would suggest.”

As for what else lurks hidden within the confines of the Apple iPad 2 dock, apparently not much else, a spring loaded dock connector, a dock connector cable and a small circuit board, so there’s just as much empty area in the dock as used area, but if you want to complete low down on the teardown you can check out the iLounge website.

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 03:58 AM PDT

Most know that Apple is always a little behind when delivering new technology in their iOS devices, although the iOS faithful would no doubt say otherwise. But as far as I am aware Apple doesn’t have any 3D plans for their gear.

3D seems to be the next big thing in the mobile space and no doubt the iOS faithful wouldn't want to miss out, but if Apple doesn't bring 3D to their devices it appears someone else will.
