DROID Bionic Form Factor v2 Revealed

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 09:16 AM PDT

What does this appear to be to you? Some sort of DROID or something? How about the long anticipated dual-core 4G LTE Verizon phone made by Motorola and called the DROID Bionic? That’s what they’re saying over at Mobile Gearz, a site that appears to have gotten the images from a random dude from Facebook. Those random dudes, I’m tellin ya, they have the neatest stuff. Now for this phone, notice a few things in the gallery below: the flatness of the back of the device, the extreme similarities between this and recent LG devices with the same lip, and the code name near the bottom of the device in the full shot: 04GT-9000. Also take note of the laptop dock – ATRIX 4G functionality ahoy!

Although these images aren’t sourced properly at the place we found them, upon closer inspection we find that they’re marked moto.it168.com, a site of some note when it comes to leaks that end up being quite legit. These images give the phone what appears to be basically an entirely new form factor if compared to the Bionic we’ve come to know and love (then cry over and run and hide over.) Of course, we DID know that it’d be coming back with a new form factor all the way back before Spring.

So what can we take from these images? That this device will have some sort of webtop mode so it’ll work with that laptop dock, that it’s got a front-facing camera as well as an 8-megapixel camera on the back, and that it really really looks like recent DROIDs. Have a look at this shot to see what it looked like before:

and here to see what it looks like now, apparently:

Target Mobile unveils Evo 3D deals too

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 08:31 AM PDT

I just mentioned that The Shack had offered up its deals for the Evo 3D smartphone that will launch on the 24th of the month. Target Mobile has now come out with its own offer for the Evo 3D and it may be better than the deal at The Shack for some users. Target does note that the Evo 3D is coming to select Target Mobile locations. I’m not sure why it wouldn’t put the smartphone in all stores that sell mobiles. Pre-orders can be made at those select mobile locations starting today.

As I mentioned earlier the phone runs Android 2.3 for the OS and has a 4.3-inch screen that shows 3D content with no need for glasses. The smartphone also has a dual 5MP camera for shooting 3D photos. Target Mobile will offer the Evo 3D for $199.99. Target is offering a very nice trade-on deal for users that own the Evo 4G smartphone.

If you have the Evo 4G and want to trade up to the Evo 3D Target mobile will give you $150 towards the purchase of the Evo 3D on launch day. If you pay for the Evo 3D with a Target credit card you will get an extra 5% off that price too. Naturally, the price is with a new 2-year contract.

Radio Shack announces pre-order for HTC Evo 3D

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 08:05 AM PDT

We reported last week that the HTC Evo 3D smartphone was rumored to be launching on June 24 thanks to a leaked flyer from the website. That launch date has now been confirmed by RadioShack or The Shack if you prefer and some of the special deals that The Shack is offering have been unveiled. The Evo 3D will in fact be in stores on June 24. We already know the specs of the smartphone, but if you missed them somehow they are after the cut.

The device will have a dual 5MP camera for 3D photo shooting, a 4.3-inch QHD 3D screen, and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The smartphone also has a front facing camera and should be very appealing to the user looking for a high-end entrainment focused device. The Shack will offer buyers that pick up the Evo 3D in its retail stores some special features.

The special will include a free download of the Black Eyed Peas “Phenomenon” and a pre-loaded version of the feature film Green Hornet in 3D. The Shack will also be offering a trade in program form the Evo 3D. Buyers that trade in the Evo 4G or Evo Shift will get $100 off the Evo 3D. Other eligible smartphones will get buyers $75 towards the Evo 3D. If the 3D smartphone isn’t for you the Evo Shift 4G will be offered free with a new 2-year contract on Sprint. You can pre-order the Evo 3D starting today and you can mess with the Evo 3d on the device simulator here.

Sony Ericsson Android-powered ST18i Urushi leaks again

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 05:56 AM PDT

A couple weeks back the Sony Ericsson ST18i and CK15i smartphones leaked and we had a couple blurry pics to gander at. The Sony Ericsson ST18i has leaked again and we have even more pics to look at. In fact, we have crystal clear pics of just about every single part of the smartphone for your perusal. The Urushi is the codename for the ST18i, which is expected to be a smaller version of the Arc.

The smartphone will run a 3.2-inch screen and it is said to use the same hardware inside as the Xperia Arc according to the person that leaked all the photos. That would mean the smartphone has a 1GHz Snapdragon under the hood and an Adreno 205 GPU. The screen resolution is 854 x 480 and runs the Bravia Mobile engine. The phone runs the Android operating system with 2.3.3 Gingerbread pegged as the flavor.

The camera on the back of the smartphone is an 8MP unit with 720p video capability and LED flash. It is said to be the same camera that is in the Xperia Arc. The smartphone is still pegged for a launch in September. What do you think, is this phone enough to lure you to purchase?

Woot! offers Viewsonic gTablet 10.1-inch tablet for $269.99

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 04:23 AM PDT

If you are a fan of Woot! or just a person looking for a new Android tablet on the cheap, Woot! has a very good deal for you. The company is offering a special buy on the Viewsonic gTablet 10.1-inch tablet for $269.99. The tablet will ship for an extra $5. When the tablet first hit stores, it had a bit of a hard time despite the nice specs for the device. It was actually pulled from the shelves in Staples locations with the reason cited as a poor user experience.

The rumor had been that there was some sort of hardware defect on the tablet, which Viewsonic denied and later addressed with a new software update. The tablet runs Android 2.2 and has a dual-core ARM processor. The screen of the tablet is 10.1-inches and it runs on Android 2.2 for the operating system. Other features include a microSD card, USB port, 802.11n WiFi, flash, and DivX support.

This tablet has been on the market since late last year and the cheap price on Woot! will certainly help the tablet attract buyers. The tablets being offered are new and have a 1-year warranty. The tablet is 0.5-inch thick and weighs 1.5 pounds. Woot lists the specs as a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 512MB of DDR2 memory, 3D graphics processing, and support for 1080p video playback.

HTC ChaCha gets processor speed bump ahead of launch

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 03:29 AM PDT

We have known about the HTC ChaCha smartphone for a while now. All of the specs of the phone were offered up last month when the pricing for the ChaCha in Europe was revealed. The smartphone has a 2.6-inch touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, and a dedicated Facebook key for sharing all sorts of content on the social network. The phone will go on sale soon in Europe and the device runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the OS.

Other specifications include a 5MP rear camera and a front facing VGA camera for video chat. The smartphone will reportedly sell for £210 ($339) plus VAT SIM-free and unlocked. A rumor started circulating recently that the ChaCha would get a processor speed bump ahead of the official launch. That speed bump has now been confirmed via the HTC ChaCha product page. Originally, the processor was a rather lackluster 600MHz unit.

The speed of that processor has now been bumped up to 800 MHz making it a bit more appealing. It’s still not 1 GHz speed demon, but the extra speed will be welcome by many users. I wonder if the extra speed will reduce the runtime of the smartphone. Right now, the talk time on GSM networks is listed at 450 minutes and up to 420 minutes on WCDMA.

Sony S2 hits FCC with AT&T HSPA+ support, removable battery

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 01:27 AM PDT

Sony’s S2 dual-screen Android tablet has been spotted crossing through the FCC as the Sony SGPT211US, complete with 3G/UMTS support for AT&T’s bands. The tablet, announced back in April along with its single-screen sibling the Sony S1, is also listed as having a removable 3080 mAh li-ion battery.

The particular modem Sony has used, at least in the tested model, is Ericsson’s F5521gw, capable of up to 21Mbps HSPA+ speeds on compatible networks. AT&T, of course, has been using HSPA+ for its intermediary 4G coverage, as it prepares its LTE network.

There’s also 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth, just as you’d expect from an Android slate. Still no word exactly on when, beyond Fall 2011, the S2 will go on sale.

Droid 3 Featured in Leaked How-To Videos

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 01:25 PM PDT

While it still hasn’t been officially announced, the Droid 3 for Verizon continues to leak like pot full of holes. The leak of the day is several very official looking Verizon “how-to” videos, discovered by the German blog PhonePads. While not revealing much, the videos give a very good look at the phone, and shows off many of the hardware features we’ve seen in leaked images.

The Droid 3 is rumored to land on Verizon (as the videos clearly show) in coming months. Powered by a dual-core processor, and sporting a 4″ qHD screen, it promises to be a worthy successor in the line of the original Droid. Unfortunately the videos didn’t clear up questions as to which particular processor will be inside the Droid 3. There were a few new nuggets of info for those of you waiting for a qwerty dual core beast on Verizon.

First, the video clearly shows that the Droid 3 is running the same Gingerbread version of Motoblur included in the recent Droid X Gingerbread update. This latest version of Motorola’s skin brings a slightly more tolerable re-skin of the launcher as well as an app drawer with all sorts of handy new features. We’ve also got some new info on the hardware. First we confirm that the Droid 3 will have an HDMI out port, located next to the USB port similar to the Atrix 4G, potentially indicating future use with a webtop accessory. The videos also reveal that the camera will be 8MP and capable of shooting in 1080p.

Take a look at the videos for yourself below for a glance at the upcoming Droid.
