Asus 3D Android Tablet to be shown at Milan Design Week Posted: 10 Mar 2011 10:49 AM PST Are you going to the Milan Design Week in April? Asus plans to be there to show some exciting new innovations from team AsusUK. According to a tweet by @AsusUK they will be there and they mentioned showing a “Design Concept or Innovative Display?” We get to decide, I have a feeling they will have some fancy 3D Android and Windows 7 tablets for us to drool over.
The image above is what they provided. Looks like they may need to hire someone to do their photoshop work. Either way the photo is exciting as you can see the “tablet 3D” mentioned. We have talked about this before, you can read more about it in this story about the Asus Quad Core 3D Tablet, and if you wanna see a few of the upcoming devices already announced by Asus you can read and watch the video on the Asus Honeycomb Tablet that is also coming soon. So will you be attending Milan Design Week? I wouldn’t mind going to Milan, although it is more of a design show, not electronics or Android. When more information on this 3D tablet and design concept is released we will be sure to bring it to you right here on AndroidCommunity. While your here feel free to check out our forums. Samsung Epic gets EB13 patch to fix keyboard Dropped keys issue Posted: 10 Mar 2011 10:15 AM PST The Samsung Epic has recently been one of the lucky Samsung phones to get updated to Android 2.2 FroYo, along with the upgrade came a few small issues that were discussed and fixed according to Samsung. Apparently they missed one.
When you take that much time to get an update out, we would expect things to be a little smoother and less buggy, but that isn’t how it turned out. At least they are fixing things. Monday they released a patch for the Android 2.2 EB13 Software that fixes a hardware keyboard problem. According to a few members at XDA the 2.2 update for the Epic brought a small glitch that made texting and typing pretty difficult. When you type a word such as “hello” the double click of L does not get recognized and it writes “helo”, making you constantly go back and fix mistakes. That would be very frustrating. The smart minds at XDA figured out it was a change in settings with the delay in response with clicking the keys, they have changed it back to the stock Android 2.1 setting on the Epic and this issue has now disappeared. If you feel like changing this and making life easier on the Epic, feel free to check out the source link for all the information [via XDA Forums] ) |
Kyocera Echo FCC Listing [Dual-Screen Magic Machine of Oddness] Posted: 10 Mar 2011 09:49 AM PST If you’ll think back to a few weeks ago, we were hanging out in New York when suddenly there was a flash, and a flying man! He told us to go to a Sprint even that would feature him, David Blaine! So we went to this Sprint event and he did a bunch of magic including holding his breath for entirely too long, releasing fish from his mouth, and pouring some liquid inside liquid – why would he do such things, you might ask? He was promoting a magical new device, of course, the Kyocera Echo, a dual-screen Android device that’s not a phone yet not quite a tablet. Today that device has passed the FCC, so it’ll be out soon, we hope!
The reason we hope this device will be out soon is because we LOVE odd Androids. Ever since way back a few months ago when we first reviewed the Samsung Continuum, with its “extra screen” along the bottom also known as the “ticker,” we’ve been pumped up about new ways to experience the Android mobile OS. Two screens that fold out to create one? That seems weird. Let’s check it out. Now the Kyocera Echo is passing the FCC and with its massive amount of files and reports hammering past, we’re hoping for a release sooner rather than later. Can you imagine Honeycomb across a couple of smartphone screens, all in one device? This is what’s about to happen right here, and it’s all on Sprint. [via FCC] ) |
Posted: 10 Mar 2011 05:42 AM PST If your day tends to take you places where you can’t get a decent mobile signal and no WiFi is around you might end up pulling your hair out with nothing to do. If you like to read news and other content a new app for Android devices has landed called Read It Later that will save you from boredom in these dead zones.
The app works in conjunction with a button on your computer browser. As you read content, on the computer, you can hit the button and the story will be synced to your Android phone so you can read it later. The coolest part is that the sync works so that you don't need a connection when you decide to read. That means you can read all you want on a long flight, a subway, or train where connectivity is spotty. This would also make for something to do on breaks in an office where you can’t get a decent signal or where the sites you want to read might be blocked. The app is on the Android Market right now for 99 cents. [via MobileCrunch] ) |
Cars.com launches Android app for car shopping Posted: 10 Mar 2011 04:07 AM PST If you are in the market for a new car or if you are an auto enthusiast that just likes to stay up with the going price on your favorite rides Cars.com has a new Android app for you. The new Cars.com app is on the Android Market now and is a free offering. The app offers the user access to the most popular things on the Cars.com website.
The features of the app include dealer and seller contact information so you can call to get more details or to set up a test drive. The app provides listings from both the new and used car inventories on the Cars.com website. Maps to dealerships are also available. Other features include a loan payment calculator and the ability to share listings with a friend. ) |
MobileIron and NitroDesk offer new secure email platform for Android Posted: 10 Mar 2011 03:57 AM PST MobileIron and NitroDesk have announced a new application for corporate Android users in markets where securing communication through email is regulated and required. The new email solution is called TouchDown for MobileIron and it is aimed at business users in the financial, healthcare, and pharmaceutical fields among others. The app allows the deployment and remote management of secure email on Android devices.
Touchdown is an Exchange ActiveSync solution that has 250,000 users and is now on the Android platform. The features of the service include copy and paste restrictions that can be set by IT administrators to prevent data from a corporate email from being put into other apps. The app encrypts all email and PIM data with 3DES or AES encryption. The app also uses certificate-based identity to authenticate the Touchdown client to the corporate mail environment. The administrator can also selectively wipe email and PIM without affecting the operation of other parts of the device. TouchDown for MobileIron is on the Android Market right now. ) |
Samsung Galaxy S II gets previewed: Great screen, performance untapped Posted: 10 Mar 2011 03:27 AM PST Samsung’s Galaxy S II isn’t expected to ship for a while yet, but a prototype unit has already turned up for some Russian previewing. Mobile-review has managed to grab the S II and put it through its paces, with the 8-megapixel camera getting particular praise. The Galaxy S II is accused of being a little too wide, but then there’s a 4.27-inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display to fit in. That’s said to be a significant improvement over the Super AMOLED on the Nexus S, helped by the new DNIe+ image processing tech (which is similar to Sony’s BRAVIA Engine on the XPERIA Arc). Unfortunately, our questions about the processor – some handsets will use Samsung’s own Exynos, some will get NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 – go unanswered, though the Galaxy S II is said to be speedy. This is only part one of the preview, so we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out exactly what mobile-review think about the smartphone overall. |
Angry Birds “Go Green, Get Lucky” Release Date Set [Seasons Update] Posted: 09 Mar 2011 09:29 PM PST Angry Birds newest addition to the family of pig-smashing levels called “Go Green, Get Lucky,” aka the Saint Patrick’s Day expansion to Angry Birds: Seasons, has been set for this Friday, the 11th of March, 2011. Thats basically one day from now! Oh man you can bet we’ll be downloading and furiously whipping through these 15 new levels – you can bet, you can bet! All green, all gold, so many leprechaun hats!
This addition to the team really shows you how far Angry Birds has come from the first Rovio release on iOS only. This update will be released both on Android and iOS at the exact same time, then soon after the same game expansion will be rolled out to Symbian^3 and Palm’s WebOS systems as well. As you know, Angry Birds is already available on several desktop platforms via app store models for downloads, and will be moving to consoles soon as well! And then there’s cakes and board games too, but those are weird. As for this green expansion to the Seasons version of the game, we’ve got a video right here for you to show you what’s about to be going down. Looks like some clover, pots of gold, lots of green hats, wood, and glass. Some stone as well. It appears that this expansion will buck the trend of each season getting its own new block (Christmas having gotten snow blocks and Valentine’s Day having gotten clouds.) We are glad of such a thing, because snow is the WORST! Augh cripes we are tired of this snowy season in real life, having it in Angry Birds as well just drives us over the edge! Have a look at some official words from Rovio we just received in the mail and get your clicking fingers out for a Friday reveal! ) |
Vendetta Online for Android [Motorola XOOM] [REVIEW] [VIDEO] Posted: 09 Mar 2011 06:19 PM PST Behold a game that’s been out since 2004. I’m not kidding. Today while I was hanging out in the game, taking my final screenshots, a man told me he’d been playing the game for 6 years. Does that say something to you about the amount of gameplay you can potentially get out of this app? Quite a bit, yes. This is Vendetta Online, a game which has JUST this week come to Android for play on the Motorola XOOM which is of course running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. It’s a science fiction massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that you’ll now be interfacing with via your singular XOOM screen. It’s an entire universe – will our XOOM window into it survive with the rest of the ranks?
One thing we instantly see and think of when we’re looking at the systems this app works on, that being Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and now Android, we see one giant hole that’s normally filled with a different operating system far before Android gets a game of this magnitude. Apple’s iOS. How did it come to get to Android first? We’ve gotta go ahead and guess that the XOOM’s knife into the tablet world for Android’s opening up of a whole new market had something to do with it. Because this game has such a gigantic backstory and years of players having already played it, I wont go too far into what the game is about. Instead I’ll give you a basic understanding of how the game works with the user interface given to you on the XOOM, and in doing so, JUDGE this game. First Impressions Since we’re here on this mobile platform, our first inclination is to get into the game and start playing it full-force as fast as possible. The most successful games in mobile computing are the ones in which you can get in, play a little, win some points, and get back out of. Is the same true with this newer platform, this not-so-mobile tablet computer that’s not exactly the same as a phone, a smartphone that you’d be carrying around all day long? A little bit, sure. A higher level of involvement in a game than in your everyday smartphone app should be assumed for software made for the tablet platform – it’s not just a big phone, man. On the other hand, Vendetta Online starts with a tutorial that lasts entirely too long. Several “missions” and minutes, half hours, hours later and we’ve gotten quite tired of the game because there’s so much work to do before the “real” game begins. If there is to be a downfall of this game on the XOOM, this is one of two of them. The other is of course the fact that you’ve got to pay a subscription fee to continue playing for more than the initial free period. A subscription fee is something you pay for time played in this game which does indeed have updates and additions regularly. Weekly, if not what seems to be every time we start the game up. This model obviously works for some games, and since Vendetta Online has been active now for 6+ years, they must be doing something right. Will it work out the same here on this tablet platform? Maybe not, but also very possibly. Us not being hardcore gamers or the type that even really gets into World of Warcraft, we’re hesitant to say that many people who are like us will play much longer than the free period. That said, I personally played days and days of my life away back in highschool in the game Diablo II, which had no subscription price. Would I play that same game now? Probably not. I don’t have the time to play games that require that much involvement anymore – not because I’m inpatient, but because I’ve got to work during the day, too. Gaming Appeal Oh my goodness there’s is one whole heck of a lot of appeal to be had by those who love video games. While we don’t think the control system on this platform is perfected by any means, it’s clear they took the time to make sure that people who’d played the game before would have both a familiar experience here and a pleasant time continuing their Vendetta journey on this fantastic new bit of hardware. New players, too, supposing they love games that require this much attention, will love the amount of detail in each little corner of the game they’ll be finding. Control panel after control panel, groups, and galaxies. Dogfighting in space is fun, or just as fun as zero-gravity gunfights can be – (if you’ve never tried it before, prepare to get sick to your stomach, dizzy, and disoriented.) The controls allow you to move absolutely any direction but backward, and if you’re smooth enough with the controls, I’m sure you could figure that one out too. Once you’ve got the hang of the interface you’ll be working with in Vendetta Online, you’ll be pleased at the accuracy, the magnificence of the perfect direction pads and acceleration vs the objects around you, and even the way it “feels” to crash into other objects. The universe is not infinite, but it is definitely larger than you could ever want to get to the ends of. You’re able to jump back and forth from one sector to the other in warp-speed animations that’d make your Star Trek fanboy eyeballs melt. Loading time from one sector to the next is less than 20 seconds, and there’s not a skipped frame in sight anywhere, ever. If you like World of Warcraft and you don’t easily get vertigo, you’ll enjoy the heck out of this game. If you like Angry Birds and don’t enjoy having to use more than 10 minutes of your day on a bit of fun during your break at work, this is NOT the game for you. Graphics and Interaction Perfectly wonderful, not lack of magnificence, not a loose pixel anywhere. That said, this game is limited by the fact that it’s got to work over several platforms. It’s clear that the universe here is flattened to a certain level so that it’ll load, but you know what? We’re not complaining. The unbelievably awesome experience of falling out of lightspeed, having to take 4 minutes to speed into the sector that has the space station, then actually floating into not just the area, but literally into the docking garage – that is unbelievable. Completely amazing. Interaction between players in this game is simple, knocked down to textual interactions in some places while in other places they’re just groundbreaking – like the ability to have multiple players running one ship. Wow. Friggin awesome. They’ve clearly focused on the ultimate dream of every person who ever wanted to live an alternate life and escape to a completely different reality here, doing away with the fancy stuff like Hollywood-level graphics. This is the game for you if you go to a Star Trek convention dressed up as a captain, then ask people who are dressed like you what ship they’re from. Wrap-Up I’ll be brief here, as there’s some rather specific situations going on here in this game. This is a game for two groups of people. One is people who’ve played this game (or even similar games) before who want to work with a new platform, namely the awesome simplicity of the XOOM. The second group of people that this game will appeal to is people who want to be put in awe by a game so very real that the gigantic nature of it can get to the point where it’s boring. Do I think the movie Blade Runner is boring? Yes. Do I think it’s one of the greatest movies of all time and basically want to watch it every few months because I love it so much? Yes. Go buy the game, no matter who you are. You’ll want to play it on the XOOM, as that’s clearly what it was made for. It costs a buck. Actually it costs $0.99, but who’s counting? It costs less than a couple cans of soda pop, and you get to play it for free for a bunch of hours, it’s worth it just to try it out. Check out the demo/review video above and the screenshots below, and if you’ve played the game or play the game because of this review, let us know what you’re experience is in the comments below! ) |
Motorola XOOM Available Now at Sam’s Club Posted: 09 Mar 2011 05:52 PM PST Sam’s Club online now has the Motorola XOOM sitting there looking lovely at $599.74 attached to a 2-year data agreement including 5GB or data at $50 a month with $10 per GB overage fees. This is the 3G version of the tablet (the same one we’ve got here that’ll be able to be upgraded to 4G LTE soon, and it ships free. No sign of the Wifi-only version yet, but heck, you don’t want that one anyway, do ya?
Interestingly, Sam’s Club appears to have facilitated their webpage layout here by displaying the tablet in its upright portrait position with a cool little Android guy standing beside it with “4G” emblazoned across his chest. Of course you and I know that the tablet is still in need of an upgrade from Verizon before it’ll be able to run at 4G speeds, but unsuspecting customers might not be so well informed. We’ve been rolling hard with this tablet for a couple weeks now, all of our reviews on it and the awesome games and apps on it existing inside our giant [Motorola XOOM] portal. Check it out! At the time of this posting, the most recent review we’ve done is on the game Vendetta Online, a game that’s been based on the PC since 2004, just now able to make the move over to a mobile platform because of the XOOM’s NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-core processor. Blast through! — thanks for the tip, Chip! ) |
Logitech Revue Ad with a Creepy Kevin Bacon [Part 2] Posted: 09 Mar 2011 05:31 PM PST Uh oh, looks like Google TV is at it again with the awesome Kevin Bacon commercial. For those that missed the first one you can read about and see it here. The Logitech Revue is the widely popular Google TV set top that has been selling quite well. Google reported around 90,000 in Q4. Back in December Google released the “Biggest Kevin Bacon Fan” video and it had a lot of mixed reviews as it was a little creepy. I liked the ending though.
Looks like Google TV and Logitech are at it again, this time with a little extended view of the first commercial. Kevin Bacon’s good friend Ivan Cobenk shows us a little more depth into his life. I’d have to say my favorite part is the front lawn, I wont say what as I don’t want to spoil it for all you Bacon lovers. If you have one check out this story about Revue Root and Recovery. In the end they do have some great views of the Logitech Revue and how well it works, the keyboard has some great shortcuts and quick keys to really make browsing and media viewing on Google TV easy. Check out the video below and don’t forget to click the link at the end of the clip to get your very own Logitech Revue. [via Google TV Blog] ) |
Toshiba Android 3.0 Honeycomb Tablet to top iPad 2 Posted: 09 Mar 2011 04:50 PM PST It looks like Toshiba is getting ready to release an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet in the near future. According to a General Manager of Toshiba. He goes on to mention that it will not only compete with Apple’s iPad 2, but that it will beat it and will be superior. That is a lot to stack up against, we know. The Motorola Xoom holds it’s own though, and it does it well.
Apparently Smarthouse had the story, saying that Rob Wilkinson, General Manager of Toshiba Australia’s Information Systems Division (ISD) said the following: “We believe that our device is superior to the Apple device, it may be a little heavier (773g) but it does have a lot of features that the iPad 2 does not have”, he then mentions “We are confident that we can match Apple pricing for their new iPad 2 while delivering a device that is richer in features”. So far not a lot is known about this Toshiba tablet, but we can imagine it will have specs that are about the standard these days, especially with the above claims. So dual core (assuming Tegra 2), 32GB Memory, SD Slot, USB and HDMI Ports, as well as sporting a higher resolution than the iPad 2, same as the Xoom at 1280 x 800 pixels. The higher resolution, HDMI out, SD slot, and removable battery are a few of those superior features that Wilkinson’s mentions. If the story and pricing holds true, come April or May we should have another tablet to compete and or beat the iPad 2, just like the Dual Core MSI Windpad, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be doing. Real Life Risk, QonqR coming soon to Android Posted: 09 Mar 2011 04:04 PM PST If you are like me, you like the game Risk. I’ve played it since as early as I can remember, like back on board games even. It has been out in one form or another for most platforms and gaming consoles too. A group of Minnesota-based developers and friends submitted a unique app idea to the Twin Cities Startup Weekend, a local competition that challenges entrepreneurs and developers to build a prototype business over the course of a single weekend.
The Minnesota-based team was lucky enough to end up winning the Twin Cities Startup Weekend Challenge with the idea. The actual Risk-like gameplay is a location based game that will require users to use a check-in system where you can attack and QonqR the city you are personally in, or near. As long as your army of “Nanobots” is large, and strong enough for the battle you should be able to overtake cities in no time. If you live in the middle of no where and have no surrounding cities to battle, or those that can’t travel, they have you covered also. You can use real money to buy a “Virtual Missle” and send your large and all mighty army of Nanobots over via the missle and take on whoever, and wherever city you choose. So go ahead and take over Japan from your couch in Chicago. Overall this has the opportunity to be a great game that involves lots of people. It could be a lot better than many of the current location based games currently in the Android Market. They plan to release QonqR for Android, iOS, and Win Phone 7 coming in 2011. For more information and to hear in detail from the developers themselves. Check out the video below.

Google Click-to-Call for Emergencies feature Updated Posted: 09 Mar 2011 03:32 PM PST Back in November Google announced the Click-to-Call Emergency service whether you heard about it or not. As little of a feature this is, it is an extremely good thought and you have to respect the idea behind it. Great thinking Google!
For those that don’t know much about this. The Click-to-Call feature is something Google has done where they began displaying relevant emergency phone numbers at the top of the results page for searches around poison control, suicide and other common emergencies. When on a mobile device and you Google something like “poison control” like I have done above, it automatically puts the correct phone number at the very top. You don’t have to look through search results, load a webpage or wait for anything to load. It is right at the top for you. Today Google has announced that they have made it easier and for many more emergency situations in over 14 countries. People on mobile devices will now get the same great result, but the phone number will be a link that allows you to dial the number instantly, just by clicking the link. So not only will the correct number automatically be at the top of any search result, but now all you have to do is click that and it will send you instantly into the dialer for you to make your emergency call as soon as possible. Isn’t that nifty. Google’s “Do No Evil” motto is at play here, as this is a great feature that only the good guys would think of. [via Google Blog] ) |
HTC Vision/G2 gets some Sense UI Gingerbread Love Posted: 09 Mar 2011 03:06 PM PST As more and more phones get some tasty Gingerbread, Rom developers are busy doing everything they can to make sure everyone gets a taste. Over at VillainROM forums a dev by the name of HomerSp has put together some SenseGinger for all you HTC Vision owners, (aka the Desire Z or T-Mobile G2). This is a purely stock ROM of Gingerbread, with HTC’s Sense UI both at the same time. HomerSp and VillainRom’s are proud to present the first Sense UI Gingerbread ROM for the Vision.
The rom developer does give credit to a few others. He mentions the rom is a merge of the Huashan leak and the Wildfire S leak (credits to 911sniper for both), which means that it includes not most, but all of the HTC Sense goodies. As always with a new ROM, the possibility of everything working 100% might be small. This was just released and it is v1.0 it is still very much a Work In Progress and will only get better. Most of the things you’ll need for a day to day device are working fine, but here is a list of a few things that aren’t. Known issues: Nothing to serious is broken so looking over this rom I’m thinking it will be fairly seamless and smooth for most users. Install instructions: 1. Download ClockworkMod 3.0 from here As always with flashing a new ROM or any zip, Do a Nandroid Backup before just to be safe, and remember anything you flash is at you, the owners own risk. Now flash that Sense rom and Enjoy it! If you would like some Android 2.3 Gingerbread on your HTC Vision / G2 but would prefer some stock vanilla Android. Stop by our CyanogenMod 7 RC2 story and scroll to the bottom for links to download and install CM7 Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread on your Vision. [via VillainROM] ) |
Android Booms in Western Europe, Biggest Smartphone OS as of Q4 2010 Posted: 09 Mar 2011 02:22 PM PST Android is very quickly becoming the biggest and best Mobile OS, and not just in Europe but around the world. The extremely wide adoption from all manufacturers and developers, to the hundreds of choices make it a clear cut winner (aka #winning like Charlie Sheen). Android has continued to evolve and grow in huge numbers that can be seen in most markets everywhere. You can read here about Android passing BlackBerry to become #1 smartphone. Stories like that just mentioned keep showing up more and more.
Google has to be happy about it, I know we here at Android Community are. IDC (International Data Corporation) has came out with a few exciting new numbers for Android, specifically in the European markets that have shown some huge growth, mentioning that Android grew a whopping 1,580% in a single year.
This news goes along well with another story we told you about recently, you can read that here on AC also at the link. Consumers are more likely to buy Android than Apple according to surveys. Now with Android 2.3 things will start to look even better, not to mention Android 3.0 Honeycomb has just launched and is amazing if you haven’t heard. The Mobile OS, and tablet markets both should be on the lookout for Android as they top the world. [via IDC Research] ) |
OpenFeint and The9 Pay Developers to Move to Android Posted: 09 Mar 2011 01:03 PM PST Heck yeah, money! That’s what every developer likes to hear, especially if they want time and resources to create the games and apps they want to make on platforms that are willing to dish out the cash. In this case, it’s not the platform that’s paying the case, it’s a couple of powerhouses known as OpenFeint (social gaming network) and The9 (Chinese game publisher.) What these guys are doing is helping independent game publishers defray the cost of rebuilding (or simply building) their apps for Android, many of these independent developers having created these games for iOS because of what they saw as a simpler platform to develop for.
Of course both groups will have something to game, and it’s not everyone who gets to participate. The9 has a $100 million internet investment fund called Fund9, some of which it’ll be pouring into Android gaming platform move for developers, while OpenFeint’s unknown sum of money will be given to groups willing to adopt their mobile social network as a way of connecting users. Developers will be chosen by both groups and asked if they want to participate, the games ported eventually, hopefully, to Android in the USA, then because The9 is based in China, some of the games will be localized for sale in China as well. Some of the criteria these groups are looking for are quality, download performance, and strength (strength in the developer more than the game, but we suppose both help.) Even though these groups will be chosen by the two companies, you can attempt to solicit them for cash by emailing your details (and saying how much you love them to pieces) to the following email address: androidfund@openfeint.com Where’s the rest of that $100 million that The9 has going? Well, it’s not going to cheese and crackers, it’s going to additional gaming ventures. The fund was launched in December 2010 as a collaboration between The9, China Rock Capital Management, Chengwei Ventures, and China Renaissance K2 Ventures. As OpenFeint is hoping to pull apps over from iOS here in the USA, so is Open9 hoping to pull apps from all platforms over to China. It all sounds good to us! Let us know how your application goes! LG Revolution [4G LTE Version] FCC Listing [Out Before ThunderBolt?] Posted: 09 Mar 2011 12:42 PM PST Behold the loveliness that’ll be coming out via Verizon this year, one whose name is not unknown to us, but not on the hot 4G LTE network Verizon now offers. This is the LG Revolution 4G LTE edition, one with a 4.3″ display with 480 x 800 resolution, a fat 1GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor, and 16GB of internal memory. There’ll be a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front, a 5-megapixel camera on the back, and connections along the lines of Bluetooth, Wifi, and GPS.
And oh, you’d like to output some video like your good friend the Motorola Atrix? Well lookie here, this phone outputs 720p HD video via HDMI connection and with that fat processor, you’ll have no trouble doing so. LG put this phone through the FCC yesterday under the name LG VS910 and it’s definitely got support for Verizon's CDMA/EVDO 850, 1900 network. As this device will be release relatively soon, and also has support for Verizon’s 4G LTE 700 network, it’ll be one of three such speedy phones to be released on Verizon anywhere inside the near future. Take a look at all of the coverage we’ve got on this phone in the past by hitting our big [LG Revolution] portal and tell us below if you’re thinking about picking this bad boy up. From what we understand inside this FCC filing, it seems as though this phone is set to be released this month, March, 2011. Does this mean it’ll be the very FIRST 4G LTE phone on Verizon since quite obviously the ThunderBolt is… you know… never ever going to be released in our moral universe? Or will the ThunderBolt keep its #1 claim intact? [via FCC] ) |
DYZ Plastic Androids Series 2 [Release Date] [Final Reveals] Posted: 09 Mar 2011 12:03 PM PST We’ve been covering the brand spanking new official DYZ Plastic Android toys series since it was very first whispered about, and today we’ve got an official release date! The first wave of DYZ’s stock of this second series of Android toys will go on sale on Thursday night (tomorrow) at 11PM EST, then again on Friday (March 11th) at 11am EST and they’re limited to 1 case per household. As you know, one case contains 16 pieces, which means you’ll likely be able to get nearly a full set, but not certainly.
Why not certainly? Because we don’t know the quantities in which the super secret special edition Androids are created in! Of course we’ve seen both of these super secret special editions, and own one of them (smells like chocolate!), so we’re not TOO worried about getting them, but will be buying a case nonetheless. Below you’ll be able to peek at the Limited Edition Release information sent out by Dead Zebra (the shop where you’ll be buying your toys on this first release), so brush up! And look above and below at the two last Androids on the list! The one above is called Iceberg and was designed by the coolest artist ever, Andrew Bell, and has a 2/16 ratio, (two per box,) and the one below is the Noogler, designed by Jeff Yaksick for Google and having a 1/16 ratio – and YES, the propeller spins! ALSO NOTE we’ll be having another series 2 giveaway sooner than later here on Android Community, so stay tuned! Check out our [First Contest] for clues as to how we’ll be running the next one. Excitement! ) |
