Posted: 22 Mar 2011 10:12 AM PDT

We had an email today announcing that RIM (Research In Motion) now has BlackBerry Protect open beta in play, the new security and back-up application is now available for download for UK users.

BlackBerry Protect for BIS is a free application for customers and will allow users to backup wirelessly, they will also be free to restore and remotely find or should we say 'Locate' the users BlackBerry smartphones.

It has happened to many of us where we misplace our phone or indeed it gets stolen or lost, well BlackBerry Protect is something worth considering because it not does the above it also features remote device lock, remote device wipe, remote geo-location using the GPS, remote activation and more.

BlackBerry Protect will offer you peace of mind, the service is totally free and The Register mentions that it is free for the moment and that made us think if RIM will actually charge for this service once it becomes popular in the UK. What do you think?

Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover Can Work On Original iOS Tablet: Video

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 09:44 AM PDT

So if you own an original Apple iPad and are somewhat envious of the new Apple iPad 2 magnetic Smart Cover, don’t fret too much because apparently there is an easy way to hack the Apple Smart Cover to work with the original iOS tablet, well kind of.

And the modification of the Smart Cover to fit the iPad 1 has now been placed on video, which we have for your consideration below courtesy of the guys over at TiPb and by way of TUAW, and Macstories.

Apparently blogger Dan Provost of The Russians Used a Pencil, found out that if you glue a couple of small magnets to the spine of your beloved Apple iPad and works rather well including the two Smart Cover stand functions, but alas not the on/off function obviously.

Still, one does have to say it’s a neat trick to kind of customise the new Apple iPad 2 Smart Cover so you can take kind of advantage of it for the original iPad. Make the jump and hit the play button to check out how well the modification works…enjoy, and of course if anyone cares to try this out feel free to let us know how it goes.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Gains 3 New Ads: No Amputated Thumbs

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 07:23 AM PDT

Up until now the commercials for the first PlayStation phone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play have been somewhat on the weird side touting an Android robot gaining human thumbs with hints of amputation, but there are now 3 more commercials for the Xperia Play that have done away with all that nonsense.

The three new Sony Ericsson Xperia Play adverts come our way courtesy of the guys over at Daily Mobile and by way of the Sony Ericsson YouTube page, and all last the usual allotted time for a commercial.

However, unlike previously see Sony Ericsson Xperia Play adverts full of weirdness and basically nothing to do with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread toting handset, these adverts actually show the gaming device.

Although in one video halfway through the video plays in reverse and Kristen Schaal’s eyes turn a demonic red, so I guess Sony Ericsson hasn’t forsaken the weirdness totally. So head on down and check out the new videos…enjoy.
